I moved your category

Hi, Liné1,

I just would like to tell you I moved your Category:Corculum cardissa from Category:Cardiidae into the sub-category Category:Corculum that I created. Since I noticed all sub-categories in Cardiidae were named after genuses, not species, I tried to comply with this reasonable way of organizing things. Hihi, you did it right. I also prefer to have only genus categories in family categories.

But (there is always a but ;-)) some people don't like categories with only one item. Here it is the case: Corculum is monotypic, meaning that it has only one species.

If someone bothers you about this monotypic problem, you can answer that it is very difficult to know if a taxon is monotypic as most of the websites we use (ITIS, Mammal Species of the World (2005)...) are not aware of prehistoric species.

For example Category:Ginkgo seems monotypic as there is only one species Category:Ginkgo biloba. That in fact there are other fossil species of Gincko. Liné1 (talk) 08:43, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

Hum, I haven't thought about that... The thing is, there are some rules for categorisation at the Portuguese Wikipedia saying you cannot create categories for species, and I naively assumed they would be the same anywhere else. As this is not the case, then please, feel free to revert my changes if you want. I'm quite new here, and should've known better than start messing around with other people's work... I won't revert your cat as I really like it.

There is also a french rule against species cat. But here we want to sort articles AND photos. That is why species cat are highly recommended.
