Image Tagging Image:Dianne_Reeves_2.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Dianne_Reeves_2.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use cc-by-sa-3.0 to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Squishycows on Flickr
[edit]There is a post on the Tucows company blog that I think explains the situation:
- "Squishycow photos continue to pile up on Flickr. This week we’re featuring the work of Kayla Fleming who posted a couple of really nice shots of our friend around the offices at the hosting company where she works. I’ll admit to being somewhat jealous - Orlando looks nice and warm, while here in Toronto we’re already fighting through snow and ice. We’ll be showcasing more squishycow photos over the coming weeks. If you’d like to see your shots on our blog, add your photos to Flickr with the tag squishycow and then add the photo to the group, Squishycows in the wild. We’ll post a new photo every week or so and link to your photostream."
There is a whole genre of photos on Flickr featuring Squishycows. What has apparently happened is that Jason Gulledge is the creator of the original photo and he uploaded it to Flickr on January 31, 2007. Tucows saw the photo, liked it, and decided to use in the story accompanying their Press Release on August 7, 2007. Tucows is actually at fault for using the photo without attribution and Jason Gulledge is the injured party. I have already left a message on Flickr for Mr. Gullege letting him know that Tucows is using his photo so that he can take the action that he deems necessary. The use of Gulledge's photo on Wikimedia is in the clear because we are providing attribution as required by the Attribution 2.0 Generic License.

Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. Please remember that all uploads require source, author and license information. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which information may be missing. Thank you.

Non-derivative images
[edit]Hi ResevoirHill. Unfortunately, at commons, we cannot allow images which don't allow derivatives. That would put these images under , which is incompatible with our licenses. Please see COM:L. Please reconsider changing the license on these images, or perhaps marking them for deletion with Speedydelete. Otherwise, we may have to do so ourselves. Patstuart (talk) 22:22, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
- I think I have fixed the problem regarding the derivative use by removing the derivative use restriction entirely. Please take another look at it and let me know if there are any problems with it now.
- Best Regards, ReservoirHill 00:25, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- Hi. The problem with derivative works lies more with the other images you have taken. It appears you've fixed a few, but one other still remains: Image:Jeffrey Osborne.jpg. As for Image:Wayman Tisdale.jpg, the problem appears to be that it is a derivative of a likely non-free image: in this case, a snapshot of a projector image taken by someone else. If you can prove otherwise, it would be helpful. Patstuart (talk) 22:07, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- Patstuart is right, you can't updload -nd images, I've delete Wayman Tisdale.jpg as you have requested. Regards, --FilnikRock! 19:08, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:Josue_Andean_Worldview.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Josue_Andean_Worldview.jpg. This image is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or send an email with copy of a written permission to OTRS (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org).
Unless the permission information is given, the image may be speedy deleted after seven days. Thank you. —LX (talk, contribs) 12:05, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT (talk) 06:12, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
