Kind regards --Ratio Scripta (talk) 15:59, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hallo Ratio Scripta, they are fine. I have added some bits at both files - look in the page history to see what. By the way: I have renamed them. Please do not confuse the file name and the description. ;-) The file name shouldn't contain such stuff like " (Public domain - Work of federal governmnet)". :-) Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 20:21, 10 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ah: you can reply here if you like. I have watchlisted this page now. --Saibo (Δ) 20:21, 10 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

automatic flikr licence?

[edit]

helpme

Hi Wikimedians,

How come all the images i have upload are automatically tagged in the licensing section as coming from flikr. when uploading them i see no flkr option but as soon as they are uploaded there is a flkr tag on there. All the images i have uploaded are work of the federal government (usa) and ergo are public domain and they are tagged and sourced accordingly. Could someone please help thanks. I am able to manually remove but i do not want to have to keep on doing this. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

kind regards, --Ratio Scripta (talk) 17:22, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hallo Ratio Scripta, yeah, that is a known bug of the Upload Wizard. You can remove the flicr tag if that is not correct. Maybe the bug has been fixed in the meantime. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 20:03, 10 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Ratio Scripta!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.
