Hi Ragib, this image has been (or will soon be) deleted, as it is a copyrighted image not available under a free license. Logos generally should not be uploaded at the Commons as they are usually under copyright. Please have another look at Commons:Licensing and Commons:Criteria for inclusion to get a better idea of what is acceptable here.

Also, I noticed Image:Shaheed minar.jpg and Image:Shaheed minar Roehl.jpg are exactly the same. I will delete the first one as it is not being used.

When you upload an image, you should give as much information about its source and license as possible. Image:Bd-army-peacetime.jpg says "used with permission from Bangladesh Army" but the URL it points to says "All Rights Reserved". So we need some evidence of that permission.

If you need some help with this, feel free to leave a comment on my Talk page or the Help desk. Thanks, pfctdayelise (translate?) 12:07, 22 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the late reply, I'm quite engrossed with the English wikipedia tasks, and don't check my wikimedia account often.
You are right about the duplication of images. That's because I was initially uploading the images with the wikimedia uploader, which crashed at a point without showing whether the upload succeeded. And I didn't find the image in my contributions list, so I assumed the upload failed.
As for the logo, you are absolutely right. This should have been posted to the English wikipedia, with the logo tag. This is a misunderstanding in my part on which picture should/can go to commons and which to the English wikipedia. Sorry about that. --Ragib 07:47, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ragib. Going through your images, I have tagged several as "no source", which means more information is required to prove that the image is freely licensed. It is not enough to say that an image is from a government website, therefore it is public domain. There needs to be a statement somewhere saying that. Please try to fix the information, otherwise some of these might be deleted. Thanks, pfctdayelise (translate?) 12:18, 22 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There are a couple of problems with this image. Firstly it is tagged Self2, implying that you took the photo. Secondly User:Ragib/photopermissions is not really strong enough. The photographer hasn't agreed the license the image under those licenses (GFDL and Creative Commons), and he certainly hasn't agreed that the image can be used commercially, and that derivative works are allowed. So there are some problems. pfctdayelise (translate?) 12:22, 22 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm contacting the author whenever I have time. From my conversations with him, he was quite enthusiastic about releasing his photos in the public domain. But of course, I'll try to get a written reply. As for "self2" tag, what other tag is appropriate here? Thanks. --Ragib 07:49, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ragib,

I do not understand why I have been blocked for the 3RR rule and our friend Rama's Arrow (he reverted 4 times) allowed to continue. As you'll note from our discussion, I requested a discussion of the various contentions. Moreover, my edits were not examples of vandalism as no inaccurate information was posted. Accordingly, neither the article nor its figures were defaced in anyways shape or form. The deletions that were made were due to redundancies in the article. Besides, I am not the only one that noticed these. Had Rama's Arrow sought out discussions instead of issuing threats, this would not have continued. Should not the 3RR policy be evenly applied then?

[edit]

I want to upload GrameenPhone logo. Though it is not a public domain image, but it will be used only in the article of GrameenPhone. While trying to upload, I didnot find any licensing tag lebeled logo or something like that. But the telenor article has its logo! How can I add the logo with appropriet tag? It will be better for me if you give me the solution in my en talk page. Thank you.Auyon 14:53, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I'm planning to take more pictures. I'm not satisfied with the pictures taken; sometimes it is too much traffic, or too much overhead mess of wire, or the authority don't allow to take pictures. Specially the joint armed forces were staring at me :D, I wish if I had a wikipedia badge in my chest. Anyway, I will take these pictures again in "Eid-ul-fitr", it's easy to take picture in a ghost town.--mak 17:14, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Raymond,
Actually, as far as I remember, I saw cc-by-sa on the page when I uploaded it. I am not sure whether the author changed it later. In any case, it might be a good option if you had notified me before deleting the image and THEN posting a copyvio note, so I can explain myself.
Thanks.

Hi Ragib, sorry for confusion, normally the tagging user has to inform the uploader, not the admin who delete. I have seen that you was not informed before so I does it. For me it was a clear copyvio, but maybe you are right that it was 6 month ago a free licence. If you do want that other admins check my deletion you can ask at Commons:Undeletion requests. --Raymond Disc. 21:30, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Mostafa_Kamal_Tomb.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use cc-by-sa-2.5 to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Who is Jhoro Hawa? It seems you aren't him and if that's the case, please have him send an e-mail to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org stating that he agreed to release all these photos under those licenses (alternatively he can send this to you and you can forward it to us). Re: Dhaka-panorama.jpg

[edit]

There's no authorship information at [1], just that it exists there under the free license. Can anyone post an image there? How do we know the user that posted the image there actually owns it? It most certainly could have been taken from a website, especially given its low resolution. I'm not very familiar with world66 though. MECUtalk 16:09, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree the license terms of the site are quite clear and that the image would be under the license stated on the image, but even on USGov images, the source website states who the author is, and there is no traceability for the image. How did that image get on to that site? Who uploaded it? Who released it under the license? Open-editing/contribution sites can not be compared to USGov sites where access is severely restricted. I'm sorry, but I still don't feel right undeleting the image. You can further appeal at Commons:Undeletion requests. Thank you for understanding. MECUtalk 16:26, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am now proud owner of a TUSC account!

I've noticed you've uploaded a few images at were deleted a few months ago, Do you have the OTRS id? Without an OTRS or someone higher up in the Wikimedia Foundation (to whether it was the case that the images have been donated and that the person who sent the images owns them and the copyrights) there is a risk of the images being redeleted. Bidgee (talk) 06:36, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

(Crossposted to your talk page as well) Thanks for your message.
I have received detailed documentation from Mr. Dawood Karim where he has explained his ownership of the photos, and that the photos were taken with Waleed Karim's camera. 3 of the photos were by a friend of W. Karim on his request, with Karim's camera. W. Karim died in combat in mid 60s, and his estate were inherited by Mr. Dawood Karim's father. This includes the photos, the negatives of the photos, the camera etc. But also, this includes the rights to the photos as well. Upon his father's death, Mr. Dawood Karim has inherited the estate, along with the copyright of these photos.
According to the inheritance law of Bangladesh (and erstwhile East Pakistan), the rights to the photos are now owned by Mr. Dawood Karim. Also, as far as I understand, according to the copyright act of Bangladesh (and the previous copyright act of united Pakistan), if anyone owning a camera asks someone to take a photo with the camera, the person taking it does not own the rights to the photos , rather Waleed Karim owned the rights to the photos.
I have already forwarded Mr. Dawood Karim's letter to the Permissions email. Once I get the OTRS reply, I'll send it to you. Thanks. --Ragib (talk) 06:50, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Ragib!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Hello Ragib,

Looks like there's a lot of work to be done on english wikipedia articles the on Indian Independence Movement.

Firstly, there are actually pictures and important primary sources on Khudiram: [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8]

I wish that the images that are found in these sites are included in the article as appropriate, or included in a wikimedia category for Khudiram. The picture from when Khudiram was young, wearing a turban, and the pictures after arrest are of particular importance. Note that there is also a picture of Prafullo along with those of Khudiram in the first. That should certainly be included in his article.

I hope that some information about he Alipore Bomb Case, in which he was given the sentence, in included in his artile. Nothing on it is included now.

For that matter, I have found some important sources from google books and imternet archives: [9] [10] [11]

For the search results that yielded the results, and some other minor sources of information, you can find them here: [12] [13] [14]

Look that there may be things to be added to the articles for Kingsford and Pringle Kennedy too. Well, maybe you'll go out of your way to create an article for Kingsford. There is also a picture of Aurobindo Ghosh on the first page. Wikipedia only shows a painting, and that is used in tandem by all the other languages, which is in contrast to the profusion of images available for the figure, and there's even a photograph from which the artist drew that painting. You can find them just by searching Aurobindo in google images or even under lange images. I wonder if "updating" the painting will do more justice to you as an editor, all the articles that use it, and that image by giving it modern face. Nonetheless, the articles should be updated with a photograph of Aurobindo, and perhaps also the one from his childhood.

Thanks for listening. I saw that you uploaded that drawing of Khudiram. You're a praiseworthy wikipedian and wikimedian, and can hopefully improve these articles in some significant ways. In that regard, I'm glad to assist you with the information that I obtained.

Cheers and happy editing, Karim2321 (talk) 12:34, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Abdullah Abu Sayeed portrait by Mishu.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Abdullah Abu Sayeed portrait by Mishu.jpg) and the above demanded information in your request.

Thanks for uploading File:Ruins at puthia.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.
