iNaturalist files

[edit]

Hi Qwexcxewq - thanks for adding File:Indochinesecuckooshrike.jpg from iNaturalist under its creative commons license! Please remember though, iNaturalist files include location data relevant to the file; it is essential that this is included in the file documentation as it is important data. I have added it now; have a look at the file's history to see the changes I made, for tips for future uploads. I'll also rename the file to make the filename more informative. Thanks! - MPF (talk) 13:16, 26 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A file that you uploaded to Wikimedia Commons from Flickr, File:Lea Park Bridge.jpg, was found available on Flickr by an administrator or reviewer under the license Noncommercial (NC), No derivative works (ND), or All Rights Reserved (Copyright), which isn't compatible with Wikimedia Commons, per the licensing policy. The file has been deleted. Commons:Flickr files/Appeal for license change has information about sending the Flickr user an appeal asking for the license to be changed. Only Flickr images tagged as BY (CC BY), BY SA (CC BY-SA), CC0 (CC0) and PDM (PDM) are allowed on Wikimedia Commons. If the Flickr user has changed the license of the Flickr image, feel free to ask an administrator to restore the file, or start an undeletion request.

Hi Adeletron 3030, I thought that Wikimedia and Wikipedia would fall under Non commercial and non derivative. I'm so sorry about this. I have sent an appeal to the Flickr user. Should I remove it from the Wikipedia page that it appears on? Qwexcxewq (talk) 20:13, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No need to apologize - it happens quite a bit. You don’t have to remove it right now, especially if you’ve contacted the Flickr user (commenting on the image page might help too). Anyway, the reason non-derivative/non-commercial licenses aren’t allowed is because there are no restrictions on how users can do with Wikipedia content (and a non-derivative license wouldn’t allow cropping or combining with other images, etc).
