Smithsonian flower pictures
[edit]Hello, I am here as you suggested. I think that I am going to at least for now tackle the categorization those images you posted at the plants page -- they are nice images. The spiderwort image in particular; it made me miss my garden. The collection of images made me miss my catalogs and books and the days that I got to spend driving down roads where things just grew naturally. The last few years in California has been like a house of mirrors and the reflections are not always what I want to see. I envy you of your age that was on your wikipedia page; if I were that age and in the same house of reflections (and I might have been) I might not have known it due to more limited experiences and also a build up of things I have said both jokingly and out of anger and occasionally out of simple respect of a person which were perhaps not perceived that way. And the things I said that were intended to be rude -- in 45 years, there can be a lot of those and I have a good number of them to my credit as well.
It should 'work' that the name of the plant genus be used for the category. The genus is the first name in the species name for example, Category:Geranium for Geranium maculatum. If you knew that, forgive me for explaining the obvious; I knew that once but needed to work with that again to actually know that again, blah blah blah....
I would try to see if the category Category:Geranium maculatum is in existence if I were sure of the species, the preview button in the wiki-gui helps with that and erasing the species half of the name is not too difficult. Uploading a lot of images, for me, gets to be a drain on my enthusiasm and my accuracy. Perhaps this is not a problem for others....
Thank you also for reading everything I wrote in the last bunch of hours -- volunteering for something and uploading that many good photographs should not involve all of that stuff as well. Maybe 'voting' for admin might require it occasionally though. Here is a personal review of your Spiderwort photograph, perhaps too personal even, it is a beautiful image of the reason I think they named that plant that name. When the flowers are open, it is not as clear because I think it is about how weird the flower stalks appear while holding the little round buds. The inclusion of that photograph in the collection of your flower photographs caused me to look at the genus and after this view, caused me to be jealous once again of your age. I do not want to be that age again, but I really would like that feeling (and even if it was wrong) that I could call my mom or a friend and have a chat with them about some difficult times I have lived through. An interesting genus, who were present at a few points in my life. So, it is both a good photograph and personally interesting to me and about me -- and what a weird day it is today! -- carol 02:30, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
