Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant - Looking Up.jpg

[edit]

Hi there,

Thanks for sharing your OHNY pictures. I've nominated one of them to be a quality image: File:Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant - Looking Up.jpg. If you go to COM:QIC and search for your username, you'll find it. If/when it's promoted, you'll receive a notice here, but in the meantime another user, Ikan Kekek, has left a comment you may want to see regarding some adjustments that could be made (primarily fringing/chromatic aberration). "FP" that Ikan mentions there is Featured Picture, a distinction reserved for images of the highest level of quality on Wikimedia Commons (Quality Image requires technical quality, but Featured Picture adds the weight of educational value and "wow factor"). I would make these adjustments, but you likely have the RAW files and thus would have better results. — Rhododendrites talk23:25, 20 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have a corrected version that I tried to upload and replace...and I am quite certain I selected the new version, but it doesn't seem to be replaced? I downloaded both the current and the archived versions, and though they have a slightly different filesize they have the identical chromatic aberration and my corrected isn't present. I then tried changing the file name of the corrected version before uploading, and then it displayed the 'identical file exists' warning. What am I doing wrong here? Thanks, Professorcornbread

Thanks for uploading a new version. Sometimes a new version doesn't display right away because the old version is still in your browser's cache. There's an option to "purge" (depending on your preferences, this may display as an asterisk) which should take care of that. Alternatively, some combination of SHIFT+F5 or ALT+F5 should purge the cache in most browsers. If they're actually identical (I'm on mobile so can't really check at the moment), you may want to just try uploading again. Pinging Ikan Kekek since he made the remarks I mentioned above. BTW, it's good practice to "ping" someone when replying. You can do that by just starting a message with {{ping|Rhododendrites}} (or someone else's name). That way the person will receive a notification. Some of us have thousands of pages on our watchlist, so responses can disappear quickly. :) — Rhododendrites talk05:33, 14 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Oops. The above advice wouldn't actually do very much unless you "sign" the post in which the person is pinged by ending a post with four tildes (~~~~), which automatically adds your username and a timestamp. — Rhododendrites talk05:35, 14 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Rhododendrites and Professorcornbread. As you can see, I had thought the photo was by Rhododendrites. The new version is certainly an improvement, but I think I can still see just a bit of chromatic aberration. See if you can improve the photo just a little more, so that no-one even when viewing at full size will be able to say there's chromatic aberration. Then it will be a good FP candidate. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:31, 14 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Rhododendrites and Ikan Kekek - I finally was able to replace the image with a better version. Good idea with the cache suggestion, though when I downloaded it and did a Diff Check it didn't match so there might be some sort of CDN server-side cache thing going on where it took a bit to refresh the image. Sorry for my ineptitude, not sure if you can delete the irrelevant versions. Thank you, Professorcornbread (talk) 04:48, 16 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Nice improvement. I think we can try an FP nomination and see how it goes. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:10, 16 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Rhododendrites, this will be a good FP candidate, but is there green and magenta CA on the strip above the bricks on the left side, and to a lesser extent, the analogous spot on the right side? I think so, and I think it should be fixed for QI. -- Ikan Kekek 22:54, 19 November 2017 (UTC)
