File deletion warning
File:Smile.dk on SakuraCon2009.jpg has been marked as violating policy, because it is considered unfree. This file has been, or will be soon deleted. The file is licensed under a license that does not permit unlimited redistribution, commercial use or the creation of derivative works. Wikimedia Commons is a free media repository, which means that unlimited redistribution, commercial use and the creation of derivative work must be allowed. See Commons:Licensing for more information. If you want to ask permission from the author of the file, please do so using a template from Commons:Email templates. For images, you may find it useful to read Commons:Image casebook.

Images on Commons must be FREE, free to use by everyone for every purpose including money making purposes and modification of the image. http://www.flickr.com/photos/heathbar/3455264088/ is licensed "Creative Commons Attribution Non-commercial Non-Derivative" - the NC and ND terms already say that this image is not free enough for Commons. It is also not {{Cc-by-2.0}} and especially not licensed as {{PD-author}}, you placed this two licenses on the image description. --Martin H. (talk) 10:51, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you obtained permission that everyone (a "for/in Wikipedia" permission is not enough) can use the image for every purpose including commercial use and modification please ask the user on Flickr to change the license of this image to "Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike", that license allows for commercial reuse and modification. Otherwise, if the flickr user dont want to change the license, you may forward the Flickr mail allowing for free reuse under a free license to COM:OTRS refering to the name of the deleted image. --Martin H. (talk) 11:13, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Both, here and on Flickr. You marked the file with {{Flickrreview}} (because you uploaded it as an image from Flickr in Commons:Upload) but the image fails the free license criteria on Flickr, see COM:FLICKR. If the license on Flickr is not a free license you should first obtain email permission and forward it to COM:OTRS. --Martin H. (talk) 11:21, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Warning sign
This media was probably deleted.
Thanks for uploading File:Lys_Assia_-_Refrain(1956).JPG. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Lys_Assia_-_Refrain(1956).JPG]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

You are the author of the screenshot, however this screenshot is a derivative work from a most likely copyrighted work, in this case the video that it came from. In order to upload the screenshot under a Commons compatible license, you would have to obtain permission from the copyrights owner of the original work. The youtube uploader most likely is not the copyrights owner, you would have to contact the organization (possible Eurovision or the original broadcaster) to obtain a license. --Ferengi (talk) 09:46, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I know, but unfortunately the law says that 70 years must pass after the creator's death for the work to enter the public domain. For more details see Commons:Licensing#European copyright law. --Ferengi (talk) 09:59, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Chinese road signs

[edit]

Hi Rocking Man - thanks for the note; sorry, I don't know what license is applicable. It will depend on whether the Chinese state holds any copyright in road signs. In many countries they are public domain, but I don't know what the position is in China. Try asking on the Village pump. Hope this helps! - MPF (talk) 15:58, 9 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, don't know what's happened there! Try re-uploading it: click on 'Upload a new version of this file' (near the bottom of the image page), and follow the details there. Remember to tick the 'Ignore any warnings' box. Hope it works! - MPF (talk) 16:19, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK! I'll delete the corrupted image so you can re-upload from scratch. It'll be gone in half a minute - MPF (talk) 16:21, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
