Pay attention to copyright
File:Wheel of Time.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added may soon be deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please replace the copyvio tag with {{subst:OP}} and have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you disagree that the file is a copyright violation for any other reason, please replace the copyvio tag with a regular deletion request.

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

The file was released under CC, according to the author himself. I don't understand why it should be removed and I have read the guidelines before uploading it. Also, the license type was even written on the image by the author himself (upper left corner).

Hi, As mentioned in the deletion rationale, that image has a CC-by-nc-sa license, which is a type of non-free license and, as such, it does not meet the conditions of the Wikimedia policy about the contents hosted on the Wikimedia websites. Like the above template says, "Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose". As explained in Commons:Licensing, linked from the template, that condition is not met if an image is restricted to a non-commercial purpose. Also, you placed a CC-by-sa licence tag on the file description page, which constituted a copyright violation because it does not conform to the CC-by-nc-sa license offered by the author. That is the first and most direct reason why that image can't be kept on Commons. Although that first reason is enough to force Commons to delete the file, we can also mention that, in this case, there is also a second reason that would force us to delete it, even if the author of this version of the map had offered it under a free license. That is because this image is a derivative work that uses at least some creative elements of the pre-existing copyrighted non-free works of Ellisa Mitchell and/or Thomas Canty for Tor books. This means that the author of the derivative map did not own the copyright on the pre-existing works and could not license a modified version of those original works without the explicit consent of their copyright owners. So the file that was uploaded here violated both the copyright of Tor books on the original works and the copyright of the author of the derivative version for the added creative elements. -- Asclepias (talk) 17:20, 30 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
OMG... I do hate copyright laws...
In that case I am truly sorry. I was convinced doing the right thing - I even asked the author personally for his permission before uploading the file... I'll try to do a better job the next time.
