Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 06:18, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

Could you help with Japanese descriptions?
[edit]Hi Okajun, Could you help me with this and this image? I want to categorize them, but I do not understand the Japanese descriptions. Could you either categorize them yourself or translate the descriptions for me, so that I can categorize them? Thanks a lot!! --Ibn Battuta (talk) 03:27, 6 April 2009 (UTC) PS: I picked you "randomly" from the category of Japanese native speakers. Just in case you wonder... :o)
Your image File:Tokyo_Oka2.JPG is really nice. But I wonder why you uploaded that last version on 17 May 2009. Just compare the full resolution version [1] with the older version [2] the quality of the new version is really bad, has a lot of jpg-artefacts and is way to bright and overexposed. Please compare the Histogram for both pictures.
Please also have a lookt at Commons:Image guidelines / Commons:画像のガイドライン, especially the section "your monitor" and "jpeg compression". Thanks. -- Gorgo (talk) 15:54, 24 September 2009 (UTC)
Hi Okajun, could you please put the source image links into the source entry instead of the uploader names. --Túrelio (talk) 15:48, 16 March 2013 (UTC)

Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Okajun. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Okajun~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell

Please do not overwrite files
[edit]
File:Tokyo 2016 Olympic bid Oka1.JPG has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |
