Tip: Categorizing images[edit]
Hello, Oakster!
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them. Here's how: 1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense: 2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets". When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations"). Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.Cropped versions[edit]There should be only one copy of an image. Please, do not upload duplicate images. --AtonX 13:57, 15 December 2006 (UTC) Sources[edit]Hello, Please add a link to the original image on http://en.wikipedia.org Thanks, Yann 17:41, 1 March 2007 (UTC) Upload originals from Flickr[edit]Hello, thank you for uploading free images from Flickr to Commons. Hi[edit]If you bump into "major" copyvios such as the last lot it may save you a bit of time to get hold of an admin who is happy to "nuke" them. So long as the user has something that makes it clear that they are copyvio and to quit it it is probably easier for you and the admin. Obviously I'm happy to do it if around (tho I won;t be shortly). Equally an admin board posting might get you a useful response. Thanks for the help - cheers --Herby talk thyme 16:50, 22 August 2010 (UTC) Notification about possible deletion[edit]
