Image:S. J. al-Afghani.jpg

Hello. user: Executioner convinced you to put a protection on that image. But he is actually falsifying things and wanted the protection to keeps his false category in there. Please see Jamal al-Din al-Afghani on the EN Wiki, there is no mention of him being Pashtun and he was actually born in Iran not even Afghanistan according to scholarly sources which are cited in that article. Please protect the article but on my version because clearly this image is not of a Pashtun person. Thanks. Le Behnam 16:51, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

First of all, Le Behnam refused to discuss the ethnic issue at the image's talk page and instead only concentrated on revert-war with me. Secondly, the Wikipedia article on Al-Afghani which he wants you to read was edited mostly by him or his other indef blocked buddy en:User:Tajik using IPs starting with 82...... Al-Afghani was deported from Iran, that's clear proof that he was not a citizen, national or native of that country because a person born in a country cannot be deported. Al-Afghani is burried inside Afghanistan. There are schools named after him in Afghanistan. Just because some westerner assumingly writing that he probably was born in Iran and lied to authorities as being born in Afghanistan is not evidence to go by. That's just he said she said stuff. His last name "Al-Afghani" translates to "The Pashtun" or "The Afghan" because in 1800s, during his lifetime, Pashtun and Afghan both were the same. Even his first name "Jamaladin" is a pure Pashtun name. How is he regarded in Iran, is there schools named after him? Is he regarded as Iranian or Persian in Iranian history books? In every school book in Afghanistan he is regarded as Afghan citizen, born in Afghanistan to Afghan father and mother. In fact, even in Pakistan's school books he is regarded as Pashtun from eastern Afghanistan (I think Kunar Province if not mistaken). I can go provide many Afghanistan and Pakistan sources if you are not convinced.--Executioner 20:01, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
User:Le Behnam is personal attacking me and former King of Afghanistan Zahir Shah.[1] If we can get this person blocked for some time because he is clearly asking for it. Otherwise he will continue causing trouble here.--Executioner 19:04, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
That is not a personal attack. I am using examples to prove that image is of a Pashtun. He looks just like Zahir Shah. Le Behnam 00:06, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

user: Executioner, who was user: NisarKand on the English Wikipedia and banned for racism and falsifying information and licenses, does not even have a single source to back up his claim that al-Afghani was Pashtun. Executioner is just a Pashtun/Afghan nationalist and that really is his only purpose here on commons. Just look at the page he made for Pashtuns. There is not a single scholarly source that states him being Pashtun. Here are some scholarly sources have to say:

  • Encyclopedia Britannica: says he was born in Iran and only changed his name LINK
  • Encyclopedia Iranica: says the same thing (he was born and spent his life in Iran but changed his name to escape persecution), LINK

These two sources are authoritative and scholarly and highly respected. I think this should settle it. Le Behnam 00:06, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

You two can settle this yourselves with minimal intervention on my part. The main focal point is that you guys need to be mellow when sorting this mess out. All I did was protect the pages from both of your edit warring. 哦,是吗?(O-person) 04:54, 03 February 2008 (GMT)
User:NisarKand was not indef blocked for racism or falsifying information and licenses. If you look at his last edits, he was doing normal contributions and an admin out of no where came and decided to indef block him. No reasons are given for his indef block, and, no opportunity was provided to him to ask for unblock because there is no edit history on his talk page or him being allowed to ask for the unblock, which all editors are usually entitled to.
To the topic now, I disagree with Encyclopedia Britannica or Encyclopedia Iranica being authoritative and scholarly and highly respected. They are just sources as any other sources. They contain errors just as any others. Al-Afghani's English Wikipedia article states that Al-Afghani himself claimed to be an Afghan. That is more powerful than EN Britannica and EN Iranica. See en:Al-Afghani or the below sources
  • Louay Safi, Intellectual Discourse 1995, Vol. 3, No. 1 [2]
  • Baudouin Eschapasse, Historia, Le vent de la révolte souffle au Caire, [3]
Al-Afghani's grandfather, Sayyed Ali, had stayed in Hamedan of Iran for a while when he went to perform the pilgrimage of Hajj. When he returned back to Asadabad (situated in Kunar Province of Afghanistan), he got famous by the title of Hamadani. His son (Jamaladdin Afghani's father), Sayyed Safdar, then moved from Asadabad to Kabul with his family. Due to the political relations imposed on him by the government, he left Kabul to As'adabad in Hamedan Province in Iran. His trip from Kabul to Hamedan of Iran occurred in 1844 when Jamaluddin Afghani was 7 years old. So Al-Afghani was born in Afghanistan. See the below sources
Afghanistan Online, which won several awards including one from Britannica says he was born in Kunar Province of Afghanistan and is buried in Afghanistan. [6] In 1800s, Afghan meant Pashtun. Kunar Province is totally Pashtun Province. The evidence is now overwelmingly convincing that he was an ethnic Pashtun or ethnic Afghan. He has the typical Pashtun face just like Hamid Karzai, he does not look Iranian at all.--Executioner 05:14, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

These are Afghan/Pashtun nationalist websites and obviously not as reliable as Britannica or Iranica. Le Behnam 17:27, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

Images

How were those images copyvios? They had correct licensing and would've been useful on Wikipedia. Rappingwonders2 21:25, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

You created an account on flickr, transferred non-free images to that account, marked all the flickr images free, and then transferred them here. That's copyfraud, and it isn't allowed here. 哦,是吗?(O-person) 03:00, 06 February 2008 (GMT)
You honestly think that's my Flickr account? Wow. Rappingwonders2 22:05, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
And just like at the admin's noticeboard, you refuse to reply... Rappingwonders2 18:43, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Request

Hi O, you said on Commons:Administrators'_noticeboard#Return_blocked_user that you would consider a block if that user uploaded more copyvios. He has now uploaded more copyvios at Image:Baby bash.jpg and Image:Plies.jpg. He has a total disregard for copyright and is banned on the English Wikipedia for a reason. Can you consider blocking this user? Spellcast 08:52, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

The Baby Bash image was from Wikipedia, you should be blaming the Wikipedia uploader. And the Plies image IS mine. And the reason I'm banned on Wikipedia as a "sockpuppet" is absolutely bull crap. I am NO sock. Rappingwonders2 22:28, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
You can't blame me for uploading that Baby Bash image which was a copyvio. I was just trying to do good by transferring a free image to here from Wikipedia. I wasn't sure if it was a copyvio or not. So now, the one on Wikipedia should also be speedy deleted. Rappingwonders2 22:40, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

Plz, could you make other replacement? Yes, I renamed these template early and didn't ask about remplacements until current days, because there was no special necessity in these replacement. The construction {{PD-"CountryCode"}} or {{PD-"CountryName"}} must to use for PD-besause-old cases; the construction {{PD-"CountryCode"-exempt}} or {{PD-"CountryName"}} must to use for PD-besause-exempt. The most of PD-besause-old tags (construction {{PD-"CountryCode"}}) from former USSR is occupied by PD-besause-exempt terms.

You can see the correct situations on next examples:

{{PD-Armenia}}/{{PD-AM}} for PD-besause-old terms versus {{PD-AM-exempt}} for for PD-besause-exempt terms
{{PD-Russia}}/{{PD-RU}} for PD-besause-old terms versus {{PD-RU-exempt}} for for PD-besause-exempt terms
