Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki ‒ it is really easy. More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (direct access). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing. |

All your images already have licenses, so no need to add another template with another license. See Commons:User-specific galleries, templates and categories policy. If your attribution template uses a license template you must use it with "subst:" to include the content of the template permanently on the image description page. That makes the use of template useless of course. I suggest you to remove the license from that template and use it as an additional attribution box like many users do. Example File:Chris ODonnell Max Payne 2008.jpg for such a simple user attribution template without license that I created for someone else in the past. --Martin H. (talk) 03:11, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks. I will try that approach as well. I don't mind submitting photos to the project as long as there is proper crediting, but I recently found a number of my photos on the commons being used (un-credited) as post cards and being offered For Sale at tourist shops in Mexico. I realize that the "clarification" doesn't stop someone from ignoring the licensing, but it cannot hurt to make things more "obvious". --nsaum75¡שיחת! 04:29, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
- I edited File:Newgalvestoncauseway.jpg to give an example of the 'attribution' parameter for the Creative Commons license tag. With this parameter setted also the mexican shop will see (and maybe understand and follow..) the attribution requierement. See page in spanish. Nevertheless I still suggest to reconstruct User:Nsaum75/licensing to a box that makes the attribution requirement clear but not uses the license template. --Martin H. (talk) 04:35, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks. I made some adjustments to the template. --nsaum75¡שיחת! 05:04, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
- Great, you used the example template, I appreciate :) Thanks for your contributions, some nice photos in Category:Photographs by User:Nsaum75! --Martin H. (talk) 05:48, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, I won't be adding the template to everything I upload (some of the stuff I could care less about)...but some of my better photos, I indeed will add it to. BTW, I credited you on the template I used... --nsaum75¡שיחת! 06:01, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

[edit]Nsaum, have you considered translating User:Nsaum75/licensing into Spanish? You can use a langswitch so it displays in Spanish if the user's preference is Spanish. If you want, I can ask other users if they want to add more languages WhisperToMe (talk) 23:45, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

Inconsistent attribution requirements
[edit]Hi N. Saum, I saw you are requesting reusers one time to attribute you with © N. Saum, n.saum@yahoo.com.mx and one time with Nsaum75 at en.wikipedia at the same file description page (e.g. that one). This can be confusing: For humans and for the programs that automatically try to generate attribution requirements. Please correct one of the two requirements to prevent confusion for our reusers. Thanks in advance and for your great food photos; Your work is appreciated. Kind regards -- Rillke(q?) 22:22, 11 November 2012 (UTC)

Important message for file movers
[edit]A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect
user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.
Possible acceptable uses of this ability:
- To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
- To perform file name swaps.
- When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)
Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.
The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect
user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:36, 7 November 2019 (UTC)
Smoked Boudin Blanc
[edit]Dear Nsaum75,
The Smithsonian Folkways Recordings are currently in the process of developing a new series of curriculum materials (called Smithsonian Folkways Learning Pathways) for educators (mostly music and social studies educators). These unique resources place recordings from the Smithsonian Folkways collection at the center of the learning experience. These will be FREE resources for all educators, everywhere. Each learning pathway is a curated musical journey through a historical, cultural, or musical theme (e.g. Music of the Chicano Movement; Sounds of the Civil Rights Movement; Cajun & Zydeco Music; etc...).
As part of these learning pathways, we are creating interactive student slideshows that will help teachers facilitate learning experiences in any educational environment both in-person or online. We wanted to let you know that we will be using the 'Smoked Boudin Blanc' image seen on your Wikimedia Commons webpage. We are planning to use the image for our 'Cajun and Zydeco' learning pathway. We know that the image is under the Creative Commons License, and we will make sure to give you the credit for the image.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Kind Regards,
Gisele, Smithsonian Folkways Recordings --Giseh (talk) 20:54, 8 July 2021 (UTC)giseh(talk)
