Image Tagging Image:Bob Barr-2008.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Bob Barr-2008.jpg. This image is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or send an email with copy of a written permission to OTRS (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org).
Unless the permission information is given, the image may be speedy deleted after seven days. Thank you. ShakataGaNai Talk 06:55, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
- I created that image by cropping Image:Bob Barr Office 2008.jpg, which is listed under "other versions" on Image:Bob Barr-2008.jpg. Image:Bob Barr Office 2008.jpg has appropriate permission associated with it, so I just copied the permission description for my cropped version. If this isn't the correct procedure, please advise. -Noca2plus 17:16, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
- Ok, here is the deal. I talked to OTRS, they found proper permission for Image:Bob Barr-2008.jpg. Unfortunately, the permission was only for that specific image not Image:Bob Barr Office 2008.jpg (though apparently the sender did acknowledge that the crop was the same as the "office" picture). So basically, if you could. Ping whom ever you were talking to previously, and get them to send the formal permission again - but this time for the "office" image. I hope this makes sense. --ShakataGaNai Talk 18:45, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
- Now I'm confused. Are you now saying that the permission for Image:Bob Barr-2008.jpg is OK? Cuz that's not how you started this discussion. -Noca2plus 21:44, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
- Correct. Image:Bob Barr-2008.jpg is ok. Image:Bob Barr Office 2008.jpg is not. --ShakataGaNai Talk 22:10, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
- Truly, I don't want to bug Mr. Gordon with yet another request for permission on the same image. My request was not the first -- DickClarkMises (talk · contribs) first obtained the image (and permission) from Mr. Gordon and posted the "Office" image to Image:Bob Barr-2008.jpg on 2008-04-05.[1] I didn't get involved until Trixt (talk · contribs) marked the image with {{No permission since}}, and DickClarkMises seemed unresponsive to Trixt's post on his talk page. But in my email correspondence, Mr. Gordon clearly states that he authorized Dick Clark to post the "Office" image -- the original image for Image:Bob Barr-2008.jpg, and the image now located at Image:Bob Barr Office 2008.jpg.
- It's true that between DickClarkMises's original post and my correspondance with Mr. Gordon; another user, Gage (talk · contribs), uploaded a cropped version to Image:Bob Barr-2008.jpg.[2] So, in my correspondance, Mr. Gordon and I were implicitly discussing Gage's modified version. Although, as I mentioned, Mr. Gordon also pointed out his previous grant of permission to Dick Clark for the "Office" version. It seems clear, to me at least, that Mr. Gordon has granted permission for not only the "Office" version but even consented to derivatives of that work, such as Gage's crop, and any others as indicated by his licensing the photo under {{Cc-by-3.0}}. Further, he has given this permission not once, but twice! What more does he need to do for us to stop contacting him? Release it into the Public Domain!?
- I appreciate Mr. Gordon's willingness to share, and I will be embarrased to contact him any further on this issue. I really don't want to give him the impression that Wikimedia is full of bumbling volunteers. Even if that's true. -Noca2plus 22:15, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
