Autopatrol given

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. MorganKevinJ(talk) 17:57, 26 June 2019 (UTC)

Thank you very much. Naturiss (talk) 17:59, 26 June 2019 (UTC)

We normally categorise places in Scotland by Council Area. There is no Council area "Argyll". There is, however, "Argyll and Bute". Unless there is a "Kirn" in a Council Area "Bute", this should not have happened. Thanks. Rodhullandemu (talk) 15:21, 5 July 2019 (UTC)

This isn't categorising by council area though, it is extra wording to allow disambiguation from those places with similar names. The shortest options are generally preferred and the single word option for this places is used across various wikis. It also allows easier cross referencing when such naming matches up. Naturiss (talk) 15:25, 5 July 2019 (UTC)
That would make some sense if Category:Argyll had as a subcategory Category:Populated places in Argyll, but it doesn't. Changing that has broken the hierarchy and opened up a can of worms. Fine if you want to make it all as consistent as it was before, but I suspect you have better things to do with your time. This structure took me abnout three years to get right, and I made if foolproof, or so I thought. The other Kirn is in Germany, so I doubt it needs disambiguating, and particularly when Category:Argyll refers to the historic county of Argyllshire, and consensus is long established that it's only referred to in its correct historical context. Your move breaks that convention, as well. And "various wikis" are usually WRONG because they haven't thought it through properly. We disambiguate in Scotland by Council Area by preference, and certainly not by historic, defunct, counties. 15:38, 5 July 2019 (UTC)
Looking through the populated places Category they have used various wordings to disambiguate including the relevant peninsulas and islands. Would those be preferable for you if you feel Argyll as a single word doesn't work or is misleading?Naturiss (talk) 15:47, 5 July 2019 (UTC)
"Argyll and Bute" seems to be preponderant in that list, and I can see why. As for places which are multi-named in the same Council Area, parishes or islands are acceptable disambiguators. And I have no idea what happened with Category:Shandon, Argyll, but it needs fixing. Cheers. Rodhullandemu (talk) 15:53, 5 July 2019 (UTC)
I've checked Shandon and the infobox and files are all there etc. What seemed to be wrong with it?
When I looked at it, it was empty. Rodhullandemu (talk) 16:05, 5 July 2019 (UTC)
I think sometimes you just need to refresh the page or purge the cache for the newest version to be visible. Naturiss (talk) 16:07, 5 July 2019 (UTC)

I looked at the page before 16:53GMT, when I made my comment above. You moved the files at 17:00, so it isn't a case of purging or refreshing. Rodhullandemu (talk) 16:15, 5 July 2019 (UTC)

Ah I thought from your wording you meant there was a weird error snowing as the infoboxes often look funny when first moved. Naturiss (talk) 16:19, 5 July 2019 (UTC)

@Crouch, Swale: This is not Wikipedia. This is Commons. We have many users experienced in the taxonomy of place names. You say "There don't appear to be any other Oronsays in Argyll though so "Argyll" would be sufficent". Sufficient, but incorrect because it's confusing. OUR Argyll refers to the historic county and the day we use Wikipedia policies here as anything other than suggestions is the day Commons dies. Rodhullandemu (talk) 09:17, 9 July 2019 (UTC)

Stop

See COM:CATMOVE. It should have become quite clear to you by now that I disagree with your category moves in Argyll and Bute. That makes it a contentious issue and you should not do it without discussion via a CfD. Yet you are still doing it. Why? Is it that you want to be blocked from editing here, because surely that will happen if you do not stop, and gain consensus for these moves. Rodhullandemu (talk) 17:23, 5 July 2019 (UTC)

Huh? I've stopped the renaming of any more categories to ", Argyll" because you have brought up your issues with it. Naturiss (talk) 17:29, 5 July 2019 (UTC)
This is your very first edit after your last comment in the above conversation. Why did you continue? Rodhullandemu (talk) 17:41, 5 July 2019 (UTC)
I moved it from the redirect as I understand they are generally meant to be empty and bots move the contents anyway if they happen not to be empty. Did you want me to leave anything that remains in any of the redirects?Naturiss (talk) 17:48, 5 July 2019 (UTC)
I know Wikidata people don't really know, or seem to care, about how we work here, but it's usual to move the files first, then the category. You can't rely on bots to do the move. Rodhullandemu (talk) 17:57, 5 July 2019 (UTC)
I wasn't relying on them to do moves I only brought it up meaning that if I hadn't moved the files they soon would have. Naturiss (talk) 18:00, 5 July 2019 (UTC)
The bot needs to be told to do that, on a file by file basis. It's not automatic. Rodhullandemu (talk) 18:07, 5 July 2019 (UTC)

I've fixed this mess. I leave it you to undo all your other errors. When en:WP gets it wrong, and creates two mistakes instead of none, that's because they don't have a clue what they're doing. Copying that stupidity onto Commons is unwelcome. Rodhullandemu (talk) 22:33, 5 July 2019 (UTC)

Why on earth is there a Wikidata item for a REDIRECT? We had long debate about this and decided that everything should be in Category:Populated places in Argyll and Bute. That's why there's a redirect, and I suggest you (1) Stop doing what you're doing IMMEDIATELY until you can demonstrate that you know how Commons works and (2) Revert all your mistakes. I've already spent enough time sorting out your mess, and I have better things to be doing. One more, and you are out of here. Rodhullandemu (talk) 23:01, 7 July 2019 (UTC)

ALso, for the time being, I've removed your autopatrolled right, because I seriously doubt you know what you are doing. Rodhullandemu (talk) 23:05, 7 July 2019 (UTC)

People categories

Please add categories for the people in the photos that you transferred from Flickr to Category:Black Widow panel at the 2019 Comic-Con International, instead of just having the panel category and that's it. Gage (talk) 03:55, 7 August 2019 (UTC)

September 2019: it's Wiki Loves Monuments time again!

Hi

You're receiving this message because you've previously contributed to the annual Wiki Loves Monuments contest in the UK. We'd be delighted if you would do so again this year and help record our local built environment for future generations.

You can find more details at the Wiki Loves Monuments UK website. Or, if you have images taken in other countries, you can check the international options. This year's contest runs until 30 September 2019.

Many thanks for your help once more! MichaelMaggs (talk) 15:35, 3 September 2019 (UTC)
