Nidaros Sheela na Gig?
[edit]Hi Morten! Your photo taken at Nidaros Cathedral appears to be a Sheela Na Gig. Do you know anything about the history of this carving? It looks much newer than the other carvings from the octagon (most of which appear to be Romanesque. If they were on a church in England I would say they dated from perhaps 1100AD). Do you know if it is a copy of an original figure, or a completely new design? SiGarb 23:42, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
- This is indeed a copy of an original sculpture from the 12th or 13th century and art historians have indentified it as a Sheela Na Gig . Many of the mansons working on en:Nidarosdomen/no:Nidarosdomen where from the british isles so the connection is clear. Mortendreier 11:08, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
