Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 11:01, 10 March 2010 (UTC)

Notification about possible deletion
[edit]Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.
If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

BSicons
[edit]Hello Monmr and thanks for your recent contributions with BSicons! Unfortunately, I have to nominate most of your icons for deletion, because they duplicate other icons, for example: (tKRZu
) duplicates (tKRZ
), (AKRZ
) duplicates (MROADq
), (vAKRZu
) duplicates (vAKRZu
). I suggest that you check the Category:Icons for railway descriptions more carefully before uploading an icon, and also Category:Icons for motorway descriptions for road icons. A special case is with BSicons with "DEO-" in their names. These were only experiments, and it was decided not to use them, so please use INT icons instead.
Only four of your icons were indeed new, those that I have renamed to (SHI1+rq-STR+l
), (xKINT-Le
), (tSKRZ-G2
), (KINT-Lxe
). Please take a bit more time in learning the name patterns of BSicons; if you feel unsure how name an icon, ask at Talk:BSicon/New icons and icon requests – we will always be glad to help you! Feel free to write in Spanish if you want.
Also, I highly recommend you not to use Inkscape or any other graphical programs to create and edit BSicons! They introduce a lot of junk code, make it unreadable and increase its size a lot. BSicons are very simple images, and should better be created using text editors, like Notepad. I have re-uploaded the four icons mentioned above, try downloading them and opening in some text editor. There is not a lot of code and if you try, you will understand it. Some other examples are listed at BSicon/Icon geometry and SVG code neatness. After saving an icon in a text editor, you can preview it by opening it in some modern browser (Chrome, Firefox, latest version of Internet Explorer).
Lastly, I may note that most of BSicons should be licensed with PD-shape. I also suggest using half-width icons in large diagrams, it often helps make them smaller.
I hope all this will not discourage you from creating rail diagrams! YLSS (talk) 20:05, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
