Missing infos
[edit]Hello - thank you for providing images to the wikimedia commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to the commons should be useful to all users of wikimedia projects - this is possible only if the images can be found by other people. To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should either place the images on topic pages (galleries) or put the images directly into a category, or do both. To find good categories for your images, the CommonsSense tool may help.
The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There is a large number of completely unsorted images on the commons right now. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do! Thank you.
And could you please copy all necessary information when you upload images especially from other users? See here what has to be done. Please add these information for all images you've uploaded before going on with other images. -- \mu/ 05:14, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

- Thanks for the message. I just wish someone would have told me this when I first asked questions about what I need to provide. --Mmounties 02:44, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
Commons
--Fb78 16:56, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
Copied from Fb78: I'm trying to get some articles done. I'm also doing my best to clean up after myself by relinking the German wikipages to the commons if needed and tagging the images in the dewiki for deletion because they're now in the commons. If you're getting all the required info in my copy/pastes from the German wiki, be happy. Don't get greedy. I'm doing my best to get the job done while still satisfying the bureaucracy. Don't make it impossible. Thank you. --Mmounties 05:32, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, but you have to be more careful. When the pictures on de.wikipedia get deleted, there is no way to trace them back to their creator if you don't provide a link. Don't make other people clean up after you. --Fb78 11:14, 7 March 2006 (UTC)
- I believe every one of the pictures I uploaded have the link to the creator/original uploader in them. Therefore, all the information is there. If I missed one, I'm sorry, because I try to make sure there is an active link to the person that originally uploaded them. --Mmounties 05:03, 15 March 2006 (UTC)
Correct licenses
[edit]Could you please take care for matching licenses when you transfer images to Commons that are not your own pictures? See this example please. There are different user specific licenses for the different languages or projects. If you use the general PD templates, you produce broken links to non existant users. It would also be nice if you could write "de.wikipedia" instead of just "de.wiki", because "de.wiki" could also mean "de.wikibooks", "de.wikinews" or something else. Thank you. --Überraschungsbilder 00:19, 19 March 2006 (UTC)
copied response on Überraschungsbilder talk page:
- Thank for letting me know how to get that link to work. I tried and tried and tried and it didn't work, even though I followed exactly the convention for that license template.( There was really no need for you to complain about it). As to your second point, dewiki is the standard abbreviation for the German Wikipedia. (see the drop-down at http://tools.wikimedia.de/~interiot/cgi-bin/count_edits?user=&dbname=enwiki_p). I think you'll learn to live with it. --Mmounties 03:15, 19 March 2006 (UTC)
- Hello Mmounties, sorry if my english formulation did sound like a complaint, it shouldn't, it was only meant as a little help :o) You seem to transfer really a lot of images (looks like half-automated with these complex table copies) and therefore it's not easy for other users to clean up all the broken links afterwards. And of course, I can't help ;-) if you don't want to add -pedia to the name of the correct source, it's your choice ... but please think about, that it is only clear for the experienced users, not clear for all, especially not for the growing amount of Wikimedia outsiders (who only use the Commons as a free image repository). Greetings --Überraschungsbilder 03:53, 19 March 2006 (UTC)
- No offense taken, it's just that I'm trying my best to get all the info in there that's required and still be able to do the job I'm best suited for (i.e, translate articles from German to English). I'm encouraged to see that apparently the German sites don't want users to load images locally anymore and load them directly to the Commons. That'll take one evening of work off each article I translate. :) I had one more question of you though. When I was uploading those images, I was searching for the PD templates in the Commons because I wasn't sure which to use (the drop-down options when uploading are not exhaustive at all and don't even offer the boilerplate {{PD-user}} . Alas, I was not able to find them all in one place with easy instruction on which to use. Do you know of a place that exists? Otherwise, since you obviously know more about the available templates, could you perhaps get a page like that started? It would help me (and others like me) tremendously. Thanks. --Mmounties 04:05, 19 March 2006 (UTC)
- Ooh, was hälst Du dann von Commons:Lizenzvorlagen bzw. manchmal aktueller Commons:Copyright tags?
- Oh well, I was looking under "license" and "licensing" and Templates. Just goes to show you.... Yes, I've noticed that already with the "self". You've got to admit, I'm trying... :) Thanks again. --Mmounties 04:31, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

Image:Karte paretz.jpg
[edit]Hi, Can you remember why you marked Image:Karte paretz.jpg as "redundant"? Can you put a link on the page to the duplicate image? It is NOT considered for deletion at the moment. Thanks. Deadstar 09:15, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Mmounties. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Mmounties~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
