Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. Please remember that all uploads require source, author and license information. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? Thank you. - Hi, LX! How are you doing? I was wondering why the image I uploaded was taken out, since it was under the Creative Commons license. See-ya, Melancolicsphere 20:02, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
- Please respect my request to keep discussions where they started, as this makes conversations easier to follow. I am watching this page, so I will see responses made here.
- There are several problems here. You claimed that the image was published under the Creative Commons Attribution licence. Looking at http://flickr.com/photos/an0nym0usmuse/154386741/, it is actually labelled with Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works. Not only are such licence changes not permitted, but Noncommercial and Nonderivative licences are not permitted on Commons (see Commons:Licensing). Additionally, it would appear unlikely that the Flickr user is the copyright holder of the poster, and he or she is therefore not able to issue any valid licences to the poster or any reproductions or other derivative works based on the poster.
- To summarise: the licence on Flickr was not what you said it was, the licence on Flickr is null and void, and even if the Flickr licence were valid, it is not an acceptable licence for Commons. —LX (talk, contribs) 20:26, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
Oh, I see what you mean. I'm sorry, I'm a newbie here, so I thought that when it wasn't "All rights reserved" on flickr it necessarly meant it was CC, which it actually goes to a CC page once I click on it, but yeah, it says what ya told me. Should it be only CC 2.0? Thanks again, Melancolicsphere 20:33, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
- Creative Commons is not a single licence, but the Creative Commons charitable corporation (not related to Wikimedia Commons, by the way) has actually designed several licences, not all of which provide all the freedoms that Wikimedia Commons require. All Creative Commons licenses require that you attribute the author, so the Creative Commons licence with the fewest restrictions is Creative Commons Attribution (CC-by, denoted by the letters "by" or an icon of a person next to the CC). Wikimedia Commons also accepts works with the Share Alike restriction (CC-by-sa, denoted by a backwards C next to the CC icon). We do not accept works which impose either the Noncommercial (nc, crossed-over dollar sign) or No Derivative Works (nd, equals sign), or both. —LX (talk, contribs) 21:07, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

I have to ask you once again to please evaluate the likely validity of the licences on Flickr. A lot of Flickr users negligently or fraudulently violate copyright laws.
Ask yourself if it seems likely that a Flickr user from French Polynesia would actually be the copyright holder of all the images that he or she has uploaded, including professional design drawings of automobiles and studio photographs of celebrities like Jim Morrison. The answer is quite obviously that the licence provided at Flickr was not approved by the legitimate copyright holder, and by perpetuating those false licensing claims when uploading those works here, you are just as culpable in the infringement as the Flickr user.
As this is not the first time I've had to told you to be more careful about uploading obvious copyright violations on Flickr, I may feel compelled to consider blocking if you cannot be more discerning in the future. —LX (talk, contribs) 18:34, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
- This also applies to Image:Nirvana black white.jpg, Image:Nirvana green.jpg, Image:Artisresistance.jpg, and Image:Heatyearzero.jpg. —LX (talk, contribs) 19:10, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
- Since I started using the Commons to upload pictures, I've learned a lot on what I could and could not upload here. I spent quite some time figuring out where to look, what to see for an image to be acceptable and even finally achieving that goal, knowing what to do, everything I upload here is eliminated.
- You said "Ask yourself if it seems likely that a Flickr user from French Polynesia would actually be the copyright holder of all the images that he or she has uploaded" I say why not? It's probably unlikely, but I can't just disconsider this just for the fact that he/she is from French Polynesia! That's saying there is no such thing as airplanes or any other means of transportation and people just stay where they are, like if I'm in Brazil I must be here 'til I die. And of course, that's also saying someone who is the copyright holder of some images and know people could not, in some point of his life, find the French Polynesia a good place to settle. Yes, we all know those things are facts of life and not just pure speculation out of someone who's dying to delete everything he sees.
- For me what really matters was that the pic had the right licenses to be here, I won't start judging people to what I think may be right cause you never know... and of course in your belief, only images from concerts or ones who have a extremely poor quality must be from their owners and acceptable on Commons. Heck, photographers are gods and normal people can't be one. Even if I am completely wrong, I think it's like punishing the wrong person. Why not delete the guy/girl's flickr then?
- But, no problem, I won't upload "obvious copyright violations on Flickr", and you won't have the trouble of blocking me.... I'll block myself. Melancolicsphere 14:23, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
- Please respect my request to keep discussions where they started, as this makes conversations easier to follow. I am watching this page, so I will see responses made here.
- It takes about 30 seconds with Google to find out that the photograph was actually taken by Joel Brodsky in 1966 for the cover for the Door's first album and that Brodsky died in March of this year, spending his last years in Connecticut after moving there from New York. The Flickr user also claims to be the copyright holder of design drawings of the Range Rover Stormer (but apparently can't spell it). His contributions are of much more varying qualities and styles than you would expect to see from a professional photographer. It really shouldn't be that tough of a call.
- Unfortunately, Flickr seems much less proactive than Commons about dealing with their users' copyright infringements. Their reporting process is more complicated and pretty much assumes it would only be done by the copyright holder. Otherwise, I would probably report it, since it's a problem if our users, like you, are misled by their users' claims.
- I really don't want to have to block you, and I hope that you continue to contribute, since you have several valuable contributions. All I ask is that you consider the likely truthfulness of Flickr users' authorship claims, just as the Flickr upload form asks you. —LX (talk, contribs) 22:26, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

Uniformes

- I don't remember exactly the image, but i think it showed the copyrighted image or screenshot of the game/character. It was deletet by User:Kameraad Pjotr (he can better explain, why he had deleted it). The other Game&Watch images are pictures from toys and don't show screenshots or at least not to close. Sometimes there is a slight difference. Please read Commons:Screenshots, Commons:De minimis and other help files. --Kungfuman (talk) 18:12, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
- I think it was this flickr file [1]. This showed mainly on purpose copyrighted game contents. The Laptop is OK, but not with copyrighted games showing. See this image, where screens had to be blacked out File:Arcade-20071020.jpg Not every flickr image is correctly licenced because the photographers are not owning the games rights. --Kungfuman (talk) 18:22, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
- Some Game & Watch toys aren't even switched on. I agree, that some other images might also be copyright violations. Especially if there is also Super Mario or Donkey Kong images printed on it. It depends on size, angle and distance to the objects. Again, they are more toys than screenshots. If you like you can propose other images for deletion. But your picture was surely not OK. In this matter you can photograph every video game or film running on a laptop and illustrate every article. On my experience most admins delete similar images as well. Not every image is correctly categorized and it's always a case of each individual file and it depends on deletion reason/description. The darkness or quality of the image has nothing to do with it. It's simply copyrighted graphics and the photograph wanted to show this and not the laptop. I think, deleted images can be viewed by other admins and copyright violations will be deleted sooner or later. --Kungfuman (talk) 14:56, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
File tagging File:Far_Cry_2_Main_Screen.jpg
[edit]This media was probably deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Far_Cry_2_Main_Screen.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Far_Cry_2_Main_Screen.jpg ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 11:29, 14 August 2010 (UTC)
