problematic bot edit
FYI, This edit commented out the file's license and categories. --Jarekt (talk) 13:44, 21 January 2015 (UTC)
- Actually, I think the bot fixed it. There was a nowiki opening tag somewhere in the source and there was no closing nowiki tag; effectively commenting out all content after the opening nowiki tag. Thus, another bot was appending categories in a loop because they were never parsed as such by the software. --McZusatz (talk) 18:27, 21 January 2015 (UTC)
- Yes the other bot was confused too, but your bot commented out the license template and the other category. It is not a big issue, except that images without license templates have to be fixed by hand. --Jarekt (talk) 18:48, 21 January 2015 (UTC)
- It was already implicitly commented out by the wiki parser which assumed a closing nowiki tag after the end of the source text. Therefore, my bot added the closing nowiki tag explicitly, so parsed text and source text no longer seem to contradict. --McZusatz (talk) 19:14, 21 January 2015 (UTC)

Bot request
Would it be possible for YaCBot to run through the whole Category:Official Portraits of Members of the Iowa General Assembly category tree? It's hit several of the images I uploaded there, but it seems to be doing so in a scattershot way, and all of my uploads will have the same issue, as I didn't know about internationalization of headings when I uploaded them. – Philosopher Let us reason together. 23:30, 7 February 2015 (UTC)

File:President Obama Delivers Remarks on the 50th Anniversary of the Selma Marches.ogv
Can we keep both files, please?
Apparently there are problems playing the video file for the full larger version. As noted at Village Pump by Fæ (talk · contribs).
Therefore, it would be helpful to our readers to keep the smaller version archived, as well, as an educational resource -- as it's easier to play the video of that file.
Thank you,
-- Cirt (talk) 00:09, 13 March 2015 (UTC)
- Are you aware of the transcoded versions offered, which should be selectable through the video player, too? -- Rillke(q?) 00:17, 13 March 2015 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's awesome, just don't see why we can't also retain the other file? -- Cirt (talk) 00:57, 13 March 2015 (UTC)
- That's pretty much the standard procedure we do here, I guess. As I understand com:dupe, it tells me to use {{Duplicate}} for files that are exactly the same or scaled down. --McZusatz (talk) 01:36, 13 March 2015 (UTC)
- Unfortunately though, seeing as we're having problems with playback from multiple people, could we please keep the smaller file that's easier to playback, as well? Please? -- Cirt (talk) 03:45, 13 March 2015 (UTC)
- See my reply at the VP: 1. If appropriate, bug reports should be filed. --McZusatz (talk) 21:01, 13 March 2015 (UTC)
- I agree with your comment there, but could we also please have the other file back? Please? -- Cirt (talk) 02:36, 14 March 2015 (UTC)
- McZusatz, would you please be so kind as to restore the OGV file? Please? :) -- Cirt (talk) 02:06, 18 March 2015 (UTC)
- I appreciate your kindness, but this is not reason enough for me to restore the file. If you think I deleted the file in error, you may contact another administrator and ask them for a second opinion. --McZusatz (talk) 02:27, 18 March 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you, but what about the reasoning to have an alternative form of playback for those it doesn't work for? -- Cirt (talk) 03:30, 18 March 2015 (UTC)
- That is pretty much the point of the transcodes. If webm is not working for you, you can play the 360p ogv directly: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/transcoded/1/1a/President_Obama_Delivers_Remarks_on_the_50th_Anniversary_of_the_Selma_Marches.webm/President_Obama_Delivers_Remarks_on_the_50th_Anniversary_of_the_Selma_Marches.webm.360p.ogv --McZusatz (talk) 23:38, 18 March 2015 (UTC)

Hi, on my user page I got the information that my images were suggested for deletion. I'd like to keep them as I use at least one of them at my German user page of Wikipedia. Regards, Dionysos1988 (talk) 08:31, 15 March 2015 (UTC)

YaCBot bug - international indirection introduced when replacing wikilink URLs

from [[:pl:Grafika:Silnik_rzedowy.png|pl.wiki]]
It works after a fashion, as the :pl:

Re: McTopot and Top 200 images that should use vector graphics
@McZusatz: Hey, I wanted to contact you regarding your McTopot bot that currently does the Top 200 images that should use vector graphics page. I'm not sure how you're pulling your data, so I don't know how easy or hard it would be. I had a request, I was wondering if you could have your bot/script exclude all the different language User and Talk pages when determining the Top 200 images? When looking for images to turn to a vector format, want to try to focus on those that are used in actual articles instead of user/talk pages, which is why I'm making this request. If this request is too much, no problem, just thought I'd ask. Thanks for your time. Offnfopt (talk) 18:21, 13 April 2015 (UTC)

Uncategorized or categorized?
Hello, is the bot correct in this case when it adds "uncategorized" next to two categories? --ssr (talk) 19:34, 27 January 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you, your feedback is greatly appreciated! Sadly, I could not trace the cause for this misbehavior. This seems super sketchy to me because I restarted the instances on WMFlabs without replacing the bot's executables. It turned out there was at least one other instance which got then reverted by the restarted bot... My best guess is to blame the API --McZusatz (talk) 01:48, 28 January 2015 (UTC)

Edits ineligible for copyright
On Commons:Deletion requests/File:Make me pretty base by ak manga-d34s02x.png you state my changes are ineligible for copyright, but do not further specify why. I am in full legal right to make changes and re-license under the SA clause. If you wish to personally take on this issue you should be willing to show which law you lean on. I would remind you are personally responsible and can not rely on quoting policy as the Wikimedia foundation and Wikimedia Commons expressly state any such changes are not sanctioned. CFCF (talk) 11:21, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
- Of course you are allowed to edit a file which is published CC-BY but what you did by re-publishing the file as CC-BY-SA and labeling it Own work is w:copyfraud. Additionally, your attempt to restrict re-use of the file (adding the Share-Alike clause) never had any ground because your changes do not pass the Threshold of originality. As far as I can see, the only thing you did as modification was select a rectangle and press del. --McZusatz (talk) 12:07, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
- Not knowing the exact basis of the templates would not equate to fraud. The description explicitly stated that the image was not of my own creation. The threshold of originality is where personal judgement comes into the picture and I dispute your conclusion as I made various color and other changes that might not be apparent at first glance. CFCF (talk) 13:07, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
- I note that CFCF restored the CC-BY-SA license after McZusatz reverted it.
- (FWIW, I entirely agree with McZusatz here; CFCF's "contribution" is beyond trivial, entirely uncreative and below any reasonable threshold of originality required to claim it as his/her own, or as a "derivative" work that can be relicensed, at least under US law. I'm pretty sure the majority of experienced users would agree). Ubcule (talk) 19:32, 8 April 2015 (UTC)
- License has been changed again. I've raised this issue at the Village Pump.

Wer soll denn damit was anfangen? --McZusatz (talk) 08:18, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
Wenn Du lieber zusätzliche Informationen hast, darfst Du sie ergänzen, it's a wiki.
--Ailura (talk) 09:57, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

The reason for the color change.
Hi McZusatz. I didn't mean to cause any harm with the File:Xbox logo 2012 cropped.svg color change. I was trying to update the color to reflect the current color of the logo. The difference between the two colors was this Xbox One and Xbox 360

Könntest du das einrichten?--Kopiersperre (talk) 20:20, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
--McZusatz (talk) 07:39, 12 May 2015 (UTC)
- Sollte jetzt laufen. --McZusatz (talk) 17:00, 16 May 2015 (UTC)
- Vielen Dank. Ist auch transport map aktiv?--Kopiersperre (talk) 21:18, 16 May 2015 (UTC)
- Die sollten heute im Laufe des Abends zu Top 200 map images that should use vector graphics eingemischt werden. --McZusatz (talk) 16:43, 17 May 2015 (UTC)
Außerdem habe ich graph (Category:Graph images that should use vector graphics) vergessen.--Kopiersperre (talk) 16:53, 17 May 2015 (UTC)
(Dann wären beispielsweise auch Category:Diagrams of route signs of the United Kingdom oder Category:Ribbon images that should use vector graphics seperat). --McZusatz (talk) 18:14, 17 May 2015 (UTC)
--McZusatz (talk) 20:20, 25 May 2015 (UTC)

Bug T97253
Hi! Considering bug T97253 ("Exif values retrieved incorrectly if they appear before IFD") just to inform you, that at Commons:Esplanada#Problemas com metadados similar problems appeared (including a Lightroom user). Affected are:
- File:Webysther 20150501201754 - Interior Sala São Paulo.jpg (from the original poster, uploaded 05.2015 --> compared with File:Webysther 201503151735140050 - Caminhão com frase.jpg, uploaded 03.2015, which is okay, using the same exif configuration)
- File:Pracinhas e Dilma.jpg (which I coincidentally found today)

Deletion of images by GifTagger
I was a bit puzzled when I noticed a bot delete a gif file. At Commons:Bots/Requests/GifTagger you got your bot approved for 4 steps. On User:GifTagger you seem to have added a 5th step for the bot doesn't seem to be approved and is a clear violation of Commons:Deletion policy#Duplicates. In my opinion you shouldn't be deleting these files. Please file an additional bot request for this last step. The outcome might be that it's approved, you can just continue after that. The outcome might be that it's not approved and you'll have to undelete the files. We'll see. Please stop deleting files until this bot request is finished. Thank you, Multichill (talk) 15:07, 23 August 2015 (UTC)

Museum of the Great Patriotic War (Kiev)
Hi, McZusatz. I hope you are doing well. I'd appreciate if you could help me with a question on the following picture that you kept from deleting. Initially I also thought that this picture could be kept according to the "De minimis". However I was told by a very experienced user that this is not the case because 'Copyrighted work X is the central part of the subject (eg it is the reason for taking the photo). Removing it would make the derivative work useless)". Do you still believe that this image should be kept? And a second question. What if I’ll create the same picture using a 50 megapixel EOS 5DS R camera and upload it to Commons (under license that allows free use and alterations). Then someone will take it and crop the statue out of it and use in his work claiming that it’s available on Commons under free license. Is there anything wrong with it? Thank you in advance for your answer. Cheers! Oleg (talk) 22:03, 29 August 2015 (UTC)
- That's a good question. Imo, if the image is "blurry enough" and one can only identify the copyrighted object solely based on it's shape, it may be considered DM. --McZusatz (talk) 18:48, 12 September 2015 (UTC)

This is a message from the Wikimedia Foundation. Translations are available.
I wanted to send one final follow-up on a message I sent you in September regarding the need for you to sign a confidentiality agreement by 31 December 2015 in order to maintain your access from Wikimedia to nonpublic information, and specifically to the OTRS system.
As you may know, the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees approved a new "Access to nonpublic information policy" on 25 April 2014 after a community consultation. The former policy has remained in place until the new policy could be implemented. That implementation work is now being done, and we are transitioning to the new policy.
An important part of that transition is helping volunteers like you sign the required confidentiality agreement. All Wikimedia volunteers with access to nonpublic information are required to sign this new agreement, and we have prepared some documentation to help you do so.
The Wikimedia Foundation is requiring that anyone with access to nonpublic information sign the new confidentiality agreement by 31 December 2015 to retain their access. You are receiving this message because you have access to nonpublic information by way of the OTRS system and are required to sign the confidentiality agreement under the new policy. If you do not sign the new confidentiality agreement by 31 December 2015, you will lose your OTRS access.
Signing the confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information is conducted and tracked using Legalpad on Phabricator. We have prepared a guide on Meta-Wiki to help you create your Phabricator account and sign the new agreement: Confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information/How to sign
Even if you have signed the confidentiality agreement for functionaries (general agreement), you must also sign the OTRS agreement to retain your OTRS access.
If you have any questions or experience any problems while signing the new agreement, please visit this talk page or email me (gvarnumwikimedia.org). Again, please sign this confidentiality agreement by 31 December 2015 to retain your access to nonpublic information. If you do not wish to retain this access, please let me know and we will forward your request to the appropriate individuals.
If you wish to stop receiving these notices, you may remove yourself from this list. Please note that doing so will not prevent you from losing OTRS rights and access after the 31 December 2015 deadline.
Thank you,
Gregory Varnum (User:GVarnum-WMF), Wikimedia Foundation

Imker - Verbesserungsvorschlag
Hallo McZusatz,
Danke
