File:Skol and Joy Division.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Hello Mathonius. I've requested this file to be deleted because of copyright issues. The actual author of the picture is Astrid Kirchherr, and not some random guy from flickR. Regards, Zakke (talk) 00:11, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, thanks. Yours sincerely, Mathonius (talk) 00:47, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hoi Mathonius,

Huib talk Abigor @ meta 17:05, 2 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Pay attention to copyright
File:Maximillion Cooper 2005.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Licensing

[edit]

How do I make the Licensing the same for these 2 pages? One is different from the other.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:CLEARWIRE_LOGO.png http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:CLEARWIRE_LOGO.png

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:CLEAR_LOGO.png http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:CLEAR_LOGO.png

66.163.87.114 - 20:59, 4 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Aren't the licenses already the same? Or am I overlooking something? The files on the English Wikipedia ([1] and [2]) are actually 'copies' or 'duplicates' of the ones on Wikimedia Commons ([3] and [4]), where they're now being hosted. Both are tagged as public domain with the template {{PD-textlogo}}. Yours sincerely, Mathonius (talk) 08:17, 5 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File:Septem-album.jpg

[edit]

I absolutely agree that this album cover (which you have marked for speedy deletion) must be deleted from Wikimedia Commons - I erroneously uploaded it to Commons by mistake, as it was supposed to be uploaded to the English language Wikipedia. I'm sorry about this! Bulgakoff (talk) 12:02, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Bulgakoff, no problem. The file has now been deleted. Thanks for your message! Mathonius (talk) 13:08, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ladybirds

[edit]

I don't think these are the Ladybirds from England, but some go-go troupe accompanying the New Yardbirds (which later became Led Zeppelin). The category you added is wrong. --Vydra (talk) 14:56, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, thanks for notifying me! I still think it would be nice to bring these pictures together into a category or (perhaps) gallery. What are your ideas on this? Kind regards, Mathonius (talk) 15:05, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know. Perhaps give the category another name that makes clear they are not en:The Ladybirds. But one would probably have to know more about this group to do that. --Vydra (talk) 15:33, 14 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I can't think of an appropriate name yet... anyway, Túrelio deleted the category upon my request. :) Thanks for your help, Vydra! I appreciate that very much. Mathonius (talk) 13:06, 15 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Mathonius what is this <template text removed by Mathonius on 12:49, 15 August 2011 (UTC)> on my image[reply]

Hello Jghjhgjghjgh, that's a problem tag, which indicates that a file is missing evidence of permission. You stated on the file description page that Bollywood Hungama agreed to license that file under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 license, but there's no proof of that. Please follow the instructions in this message on your talk page to make sure evidence will be provided. Also, please let me know if you have any further questions. Kind regards, Mathonius (talk) 12:49, 15 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

what a license to upload a photo of me not to delete — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.121.141.253 (talk • contribs)

You may find useful information about licenses on Commons:Licensing. I hope that answers your question. By the way, do the following accounts belong to the same person?
If so, I'd recommend reading the policy on sock puppetry. Regards, Mathonius (talk) 05:41, 17 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't...

[edit]

...mark pages as "patrolled" after adding {{Speedydelete}}. I know, that's policy at nlwiki and most other wikis, but here, most admins patrol Special:Newpages, so it's better if it stays unpatrolled. Thanks for understanding. Kind regards, Trijnstel (talk) 10:30, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Btw, I undid this edit, because Apandya (talk · contribs) created the user page User:Johnedwards1225 and not Johnedwards1225 himself (though it's probably the same person). Trijnstel (talk) 10:33, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Trijnstel, thanks for correcting and notifying me! I will keep it in mind from now on. Mathonius (talk) 14:11, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why problems with publicity images?

[edit]

Mathonius: While I appreciate Wikipedia/Wikimedia's efforts to combat copyright piracy, I don't understand objections to the publicity photos I uploaded from the official movie site of the UK-NZ film Tracker -- nor do I find Wikipedia's process for permission intuitive when I read it. Did you realize that I had cited this publicity ("Gallery") page as proof that the images are for public usage? No disrepect intended -- just trying to understand. (Meantime, I have contacted the movie site and asked them for support.) Aboudaqn (talk)

Hello Aboudaqn, the Free Art License (FAL) may only be applied by someone who has sufficient author's rights (i.e. the copyright holder). In this case, you've uploaded File:Image 9 of 12 from Tracker (UK-NZ) film.jpg and File:Tracker2010 6of12.jpg, stating that they were released under this license. However, according to the movie site, the copyright belongs to Kaleidoscope Home Entertainment and, currently, there's no indication that these images may be used under the FAL. The essence of our process for permission is contacting the Volunteer Response Team. They'll also be able to help you with further questions. Good luck, Mathonius (talk) 20:58, 2 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Here too :)

--Josedm (talk) 05:52, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Josedm, thank you for your reply. However, I'm afraid this is not enough evidence for the claim that this image has been released under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported license. There's also nothing on http://www.latercera.com/ that indicates any of their images is "free". I am very sorry, but - given the little amount of evidence of permission - this image will likely be deleted. Kind regards, Mathonius (talk) 19:36, 7 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have been working on solving why area used with fractions, Example: .5 x .5 = .25, seems to fit in an area of a square of 1 x 1 = 1 (all units the same).

I believe that I can show that Length times Width is not (Length times Width equals Division).

I am trying to prove how a ruler of inches could be devided in to 10 units as well (called: picas).

On the file of the above, I tried to release the copyright to commons: "Own Work". I believe that the notation can save life in medical fields with true area and volume found with whole number.

I would like to have this file for reference on Wikipedia.

Thank you.

Stephen John Macko, B.A.

Dear Stephen John Macko, thanks for your message. Wikimedia Commons has a specific project scope and every kind of page has a specific purpose. My advice is to read the policy on this. The problem with File:Inch in 10 base.JPG is that you haven't selected a license yet. Please follow these instructions and pick one of the free licenses mentioned here. Feel free to ask me any questions you might have. By the way, it's not necessary to translate your messages into French and/or German (like you did here). ;) Kind regards, Mathonius (talk) 03:15, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A Hope For Home

I need help putting photos on the band article for A Hope for Home, I own no copyrights for any of their photos. How would I go about getting photos on their wiki page? I can get permission from one member of the band. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MatthewCJones (talk • contribs)

Hello Matthew, thank you for your message. If the copyright to these pictures belong to that band member, then you (or he) may wish to follow the procedure described on Commons:OTRS. I do not agree with this undo. If you need a formal reason from the guideline, look at this: "Currently there are seven widely undisputed uses for rename requests... (4) change meaningless bio-names into binomial scientific names". "Lomannius sp." is binomial. "Lomaniusverdemindanaopeq" is meaningless. Mithril (talk) 06:12, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Mithril, thanks for your feedback and explaining. I apologise for the trouble I've caused you. Reviewing my undo, I agree with you and I've now renamed the file to File:Lomanius sp.jpg. Regards, Mathonius (talk) 06:20, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

file error

[edit]

I figure I might as well post directly here: When making the rnaming request for File:BSicon uexKRZxl.svg I made a slight mistake: the actual correct name is "BSicon uexKRZl.svg". "uex-" means the entire icon is pale blue, the second x was redundant and due to a copypaste error.... Circeus (talk) 23:07, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, I've now moved the file to File:BSicon uexKRZl.svg. Regards, Mathonius (talk) 01:22, 13 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Renaming vs deleting

[edit]

I completely agree with you that it is nonsense to delete a file that will be reloaded immediately afterwards with another name. There are several causes with my problem :

  1. I tried to use the new loading wizard. It is rather elliptical about adding "file:..." or "....svg" or not. If you do it the wrong way you get the wrong result. And when you upload unfrequently, there is no way to remember whether or not it is necessary to add it.
  2. Once you have found out that you have the wrong name, there is a "delete" entry in the tools, no "rename"
  3. I have 2 files with this double .svg : "endobutton 01" and "..02"

Thank you for reacting immediately !       Trassiorf (talk) 13:25, 14 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • I have put in the section Commons:Deletion requests/File:Endobutton 02-fr.svg.svg the following question:
*{{vk}} : How do you remove the {{tl|delete}} on the renamed page, as well as the present section ? I presume I cannot do it by myself, just by editing them out. ~~~~.
Can you help ?       Trassiorf (talk) 10:58, 16 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, I've already removed the template and I've asked Trijnstel, who is an administrator on this project, to close the request. Kind regards, Mathonius (talk) 11:08, 16 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Question about Flickr

[edit]

Hi Mathonius. I have a question! I have a large group of photographs that I have uploaded from my two Flickr pro accounts via the Flickr uploader. People seem to think a "Wikimedian did not take them" so I've been unable to nominate photos for quality image status. Is there a way that I can easily re-upload these (i.e. replace the file) images and not have a problem? If so, how would I go about the template (description/source/author/etc?). Any help would be fab. Thanks so very much! Missvain (talk) 02:48, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Here is an example (not really a quality image, but just an example): File:Baltimore_World_Trade_Center_Detail.jpg Missvain (talk) 02:49, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Sarah, honestly and sadly, I'm not quite familiar with the quality images procedures and guidelines... Maybe you could ask your question at Commons talk:Quality images? I guess you could manually change the file description pages, since you're the creator of these pictures, but I don't know this for sure. I'm really sorry for being unable to help you with this. Regards, Mathonius (talk) 03:11, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No problem =) Thanks for your thoughts! Missvain (talk) 03:15, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This says you processed the speedy deletion but the page still appears for me. I'm not sure what happened (tried clearing my cache, so I don't think it was my browser). If you could recheck, that would be good. Thanks. :) Ottava Rima (talk) 04:48, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Ottava Rima, that page hasn't been deleted yet. In my message (see {{Project scope}}) I explain to the creator that her "image or other content, [...], was recently deleted, or will soon be deleted", so there's nothing wrong. I hope I didn't annoy you by adding that template while you were apparently writing a personal message. Kind regards, Mathonius (talk) 04:54, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You didn't annoy me. I thought you were just processing it too. :) I was busy contacting an admin an en.wiki where the user was releasing too much personal information. I was trying to cover all the aspects at once. :) I just wasn't sure if I missed something. :) Ottava Rima (talk) 05:14, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello Mathonius. Excuse me if I'm free only now. Well, to be honest, it's not so important for me the rollback tool here, because since I'm used to seeing the situations from the IRC channel. Anyway, some others people invited me to ask for a global rollback. But I do not know if I had enough crosswiki edits. So, as you are a global rollbacker (and soon a global sysop as well ;)) what do you think about my crossactivity? As you can see I'm already a rollbacker in several projects: I always use the tool only in clear cases of vandalism (and with it it's easier undo vandalism). PS: Today I cannot access to the SWMT channel. Have you got the same problem? For my user page... Your global page was interesting and so... :) Sorry for my english.--Frigotoni ...i'm here; 11:53, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Frigotoni, absolutely no problem. Of course I can't promise anything, but considering your global contributions, I think you're experienced enough and it's my opinion that the projects could really benefit from you being a global rollbacker. So please be bold, don't hesitate any further and request the tool. Best regards, Mathonius (talk) 12:15, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again Mathonius. First of all, thank you for this (even if I sometimes go to Meta). Then, thank you for invited me for asking the tool, but I think I want to do some more experience (at least other two weeks), because I have just seen (in the discussion archive of global permission) and I realized that maybe it's necessary that I have to do some more edits...--Frigotoni ...i'm here; 17:35, 17 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion

[edit]

You nominated File:Akhila .jpg for speedy deletion. You didn't list the specific web page that it was taken from so that it could be inspected by a Commons admin and deleted as a copyright violation. So either do that or list it under regular deletion with your rationale. You do have the precautionary principle in your favor but I would expect to see something more than that as rationale. Good luck! Royalbroil 12:02, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Royalbroil, I found that file after seeing File:Teja-bhai-and-family-photos.jpg, a clear-cut copyright violation uploaded by the same user. This image can be found all over het Internet and I think it's obvious that this one's a copyvio as well. Listing a specific web page would be helpful, but that isn't always possible due to the large amount of copies on the web. When tagging something like this with this rationale, I assume administrators will use Tineye or the GoogleImages tab to verify my statement. Anyway, this picture carried a watermark and I've now discovered that it's a copy of [6]. Although I understand and respect your concerns - for sure, if in doubt, a regular DR is the way to go -, I believe searching for exact copies in cases like these is a bit time-consuming... sorry. Kind regards, Mathonius (talk) 12:55, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Hero Kids images (spanish)

[edit]

Hi Mathonius, not really familiar with uploading images -own- to wikipedia, but finally we got for the few images upload this acknowledgement (Ticket#2011091310017617):

Dear Alma Ata International Pictures,

We have made the necessary modifications to the file pages uploaded up to this point at <http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Hero_Kids>.

I am expecting that the uploader will be providing further images to represent each of the chapters for the article at <http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hero_Kids>. Thank you for your contribution to the Wikimedia Commons.

Yours sincerely, Adrignola

I didn't expect to send a right owner authorisation for each image !

Muchas gracias por responder. Marcaron esta imagen Mil maneras de morir.png para borrar pero no la borraron, ¿la podes borrar? ahora yo hice un logo como ese y lo subi. gracias!!!!. --Antoniairiarte (talk) 19:59, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File:Miranda_(TV_series)_title.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not.

Thank you!

Bart De Wever

[edit]

Hoi Mathonius.

Vriendelijke groet, Mathonius (talk) 11:12, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

HelloMathonius of which a license to upload a photo and I will not delete. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.254.230.210 (talk • contribs)

Hello, information about licensing can be found on COM:L. You need to license images correctly to prevent them from getting deleted. Good luck, Mathonius (talk) 21:49, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Mathonius if you get my picture on Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 2.0 or Creative Commons 3.0 I'll delete it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.254.230.210 (talk • contribs)

I don't understand. Perhaps you could ask your questions to users who speak your native language, like EugeneZelenko and Spiritia? Mathonius (talk) 22:27, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Adminship suggestion

[edit]

Hello Mathonius. I notice that you have done many good work in fighting vandalism/copyvio recently. And it will be great if you can do it yourself. Moreover, you are a globally trusted user so admin bit is a very good idea. Do you consider about this. If so, tell me. Regards--Morning Sunshine (talk) 10:14, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Morning Sunshine, I have thought about it and I am interested. A few weeks ago, another admin also asked me this question via e-mail, so I'll ask him if he wishes to comment here. Kind regards, Mathonius (talk) 14:08, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes - it was me :). I would definitely support this one without hesitation - my only concern was that the community might want to see more DR work as they do sometimes however it is not an issue to me. --Herby talk thyme 14:20, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
✓ Done I have created your RfA. Please sign your acceptance to it. Thanks--Morning Sunshine (talk) 08:43, 19 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

An offering for our new administrator from your comrades...

Mathonius, congratulations! You now have administrator rights on Commons. Please take a moment to read the Commons:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Commons:Administrators' noticeboard and Commons:Deletion requests), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care.

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-commons on irc.freenode.net. There is also a channel for Commons admins, which may be useful for more sensitive topics, or coordination among administrators:#wikimedia-commons-admin.

You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading.

Please also check or add your entry to the List of administrators and the related lists by language and date it references.

Attack account

[edit]

Hi Mathonius, shouldn't Mathcúntius (talk · contribs) also been blocked? I can't see his 1 edit, as it was likely oversighted. --Túrelio (talk) 08:31, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Túrelio, that account has been blocked as well as locked and hidden. Greetings, Mathonius (talk) 15:17, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Strange that nothing of this is displayed here, contrary to the other vandal. --Túrelio (talk) 16:21, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, yes, that edit has been oversighted. I don't know why the block isn't visible there, although the link to Special:Unblock implies he's currently blocked. Mathonius (talk) 16:39, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Even SUL info does not provide much information. Anyway, if he is already blocked, then my initial question in answered. --Túrelio (talk) 16:44, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ähem, had you read Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/Vandalism#libellous vandalism on Talk:Roger Bacon before the deletion? --Túrelio (talk) 13:30, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No, I hadn't seen that. I've now restored the page. Mathonius (talk) 13:54, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have added the 6 vandals, which you have blocked, to case Commons:Requests for checkuser/Case/Kill Nazis, as they seem to be the same. --Túrelio (talk) 13:45, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. Mathonius (talk) 13:54, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

For watching :)

[edit]

This just in case it comes back... A lot of that sort of thing getting "promoted" one way or another. Cheers --Herby talk thyme 14:56, 22 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Speaking of which... these were both promotional (text in descriptions) and copyvios. --Herby talk thyme 15:12, 22 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
And :) if ever you get bored most of the media here are from single use accounts who seem to have only edited the en wp article on the subject... --Herby talk thyme 15:18, 22 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mathonius, about these files: File:Juve 1950--51.jpg, File:Juve 1951--52.jpg, File:Juve 1952--53.jpg, I think you might be wrong. Usually it's better to avoid uploading files under PD-Italy on Commons, as you can see from here: it:Template:PD-Italia (where "Evita di trasferire questo file su Wikimedia Commons" means "Avoid transfer this file on Wikimedia Commons"). If you are completely sure about the files copyright status, then I apologize, otherwise please consider deleting those files. Thank you. --Adamanttt (talk) 18:46, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Adamanttt, thanks for your message. You could be right. I'm not 100% sure, so I'll nominate these three files via the COM:DR procedure. Mathonius (talk) 20:10, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Please see Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Dany98Rc. Thanks again, Mathonius (talk) 20:16, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Help, please.

[edit]

Sorry to bother you. I don't really know whom to ask.
I recently uploaded this file concerning David Copperfiedl by Charles Dickens : File:Chez les Micawber (David Copperfield).jpeg, but mistook it with another one when describing it.
It has nothing to do with the Micawbers but portrays David boldly asking for ale in a pub.
I wonder if it could be deleted altogether, all the more so as it is a duplicate.
Many thanks, Robert Ferrieux (Wikipedia.fr) : http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:ListFiles/Robert_Ferrieux

Hello, Robert. No problem, I've deleted the file. In the future, you can also use the {{Speedy}} template (or {{Duplicate}} for duplicates) to request deletion or {{Rename}} to request files to be renamed. Please let me know if you have any questions. Kind regards, Mathonius (talk) 16:58, 19 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks, I feel so relieved. When in doubt about something concerning Commons, I'll solicit your opinion and advice. I'm most grateful. Best regards. Robert.

A brownie for you!
