User talk:Maqroll~commonswiki
Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki - it is really easy. More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons. You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing. |

Please note that fair use images are not permitted on Wikimedia Commons, as explained in Commons:Licensing. —LX (talk, contribs) 23:39, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
- What does it means?? i took that pic from en-Wikipedia. If the photo is not in commons we can'y use it for the catalan page of the same article... What do I have tot do then?? --Maqroll 23:46, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
- According to meta:Fair use, the Catalan Wikipedia edition permits fair use. If this is correct, you might be able to upload it locally. Otherwise, you will have to find a free alternative. —LX (talk, contribs) 23:55, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
- Could'nt you tell me a way to keep the picture (I said it's a photo from english wikipedia) instead of erasing it? I don't know if you noticed I'm not a veteran here, until yesterday I just have uploaded pictures I took, and the mellotron one is the first pic I upload from another source. -Oh, and what does it means "fair use"? Does the en-wikipedia allows to use them? And the commons, doesn't allow it?? --Maqroll 09:20, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
- Again, please keep the discussion where it started, as I have requested. Your talk page is on my watchlist, so I will see any posts you make here.
- Fair use is a legal concept which allows non-free images to be used to some limited extent under some specific circumstances. English Wikipedia accepts fair use images provided all the requirements are met, as does Catalan Wikipedia according to meta:Fair use, but Commons only accepts free content, which excludes fair use images. For more information on fair use, there is an article in Catalan explaining the concept and a document on English Wikipedia explaining its application on the English Wikipedia edition. There is a section in the licensing policy document on Commons explaining why fair use images are not allowed here.
- I couldn't have told you a way to keep the image, because fair use images are simply not allowed on Wikimedia Commons. However, I did not delete the picture. (In fact, I couldn't have, because I'm not an administrator.) As the deletion log shows, it was deleted by Yann.
Image Tagging Image:Maqroll_Annapurna-1.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Maqroll_Annapurna-1.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-2.5}} to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Maqroll. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Maqroll~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
