Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

M4A4 cutaway.svg

Hello Malyszkz, to my knowledge there's a mistake in the picture's description. It's not a M2 Browning machine gun at № 30, because the secondary weapon at point 30 was a .30 cal machine gun, and the M2 Browning was a .50 Caliber weapon. It's one of the M4A4's two 7,62 mm (.30 cal) machine guns (M1919 Browning). The second one is mounted beside the primary weapon (not visible in the cutaway). Cf. R. P. Hunnicutt: Sherman. You kindly converted my hand-drawn version of this to an SVG version. I wonder if you could make a couple of additions to it.

I would like an r₀ above the line between P₀ and the line which joins the aperture, and an s added above the line from Q to P.

But can you remove the curving line connect to the line comming down from the "A" on the bottom that isn't part of the signature on File:Kalakaua R 1875 signature.svg which you can see by the different colorization on File:Kalakaua R. 1875 signature.jpg. No. I only ask for you to remove the smaller line on the very bottom which is ackwardly connected to the one coming down from the leter "A" on the signature of Kalakaua. So keep A curve but get rid of the one connecting to that curve.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 16:00, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

Orbiter main propulsion system

Hi there! Just a quick note concerning your excellent vector diagram of the Space Shuttle's Main Propulsion System, File:Orbiter main propulsion system.svg. I've always been slightly confused by the diagram as there is no LOX equivalent of the LH2 fill/drain valve on it, but I see that the original diagram you took it off did not feature one. I have, however, finally managed to locate a diagram showing the location of this valve, on page 14 of this Boeing presentation (its labelled Liquid Oxygen Fill & Drain Port), and was wondering if you could possibly add it in? Regarding File:CalDOT-SASElevPlan4Q2005P42.svg. First, thank you very much for your creation of this SVG version.

I am requesting a minor update. The original from CalTrans was deficient in that it does not show the continuity of the cable. Cables are anchored at the east (right in the image) and wrap all the way around the western counterweight (on the left). A minor, yet important improvement would be to show both the western counterweight and, on its western side, the continuation of the cable, which would be visible between the roadway boxes. The proper location for the cable would be at the left extremity of the main span counterweight, with counterweight position projected from the elevation view, seen in the current image centered on the dashed line at the left of the plan view..

PL: "Proszę o małą poprawkę. Oryginalny plik z CalTrans ma taki brak, że nie pokazuje kontynuacji liny. Liny są zakotwiczone na wschodzie (po prawej stronie obrazka) i ciągną się aż do zachodniej przeciwwagi (po lewej). Nieduż, ale istotną poprawką byłoby pokazania zarówno zachodniej przeciwwagi, jak i, po stronie zachodniej, dalszego ciągu liny, która byłaby widoczna pomiędzy powierzchniami dróg. Prawidłowe położenie liny znajdowałoby się przy lewym skraju przeciwwagi głównego przęsła, z pozycją przeciwwagi przedstawioną na rzucie elewacji, widoczną na obecnym rysunku w pozycji wycentrowanej na linii przerywanej po lewej stronie rzutu z góry."

Przykro mi, ale dla mnie ten opis jest strasznie mętny. Przypatrywałem się rysunkowi i nie wiem, o co chodzi. W każdym razie rozszerzenie rysunku nie ma chyba potwierdzenia w źródłowym PDFie, więc byłoby wg mnie ORem. Chyba że zgłaszający poda Ci adekwatne źródła.
