Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Dear Lvcvlvs,

The 2013 Picture of the Year competition has ended and we are pleased to announce the results: We shattered participation records this year — more people voted in Picture of the Year 2013 than ever before. In both rounds, 4070 different people voted for their favorite images. Additionally, there were more image candidates (featured pictures) in the contest than ever before (962 images total).

• In the first round, 2852 people voted for all 962 files
• In the second round, 2919 people voted for the 50 finalists (the top 30 overall and top 2 in each category)

We congratulate the winners of the contest and thank them for creating these beautiful images and sharing them as freely licensed content:

1. 157 people voted for the winner, an image of a lightbulb with the tungsten filament smoking and burning.
2. In second place, 155 people voted for an image of "Sviati Hory" (Holy Mountains) National Park in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine.
3. In third place, 131 people voted for an image of a swallow flying and drinking.

Bonjour Lvcvlvs,

je tiens à te signaler une erreur sur une flèche de la carte que tu as fait : la sidérurgie de Fos-sur-Mer a été fondée par les Lorrains. Ceux-ci n'ont pas participé à la fondation de l'usine de Dunkerque. Tu peux lire cet ref pour avoir une vision plus complète. Le complexe fosséen a été complété par la production d'aciers spéciaux : les producteurs ont été suiveurs.

Après la fondation, les fusions brouillent le schéma de 1970. En 1987, Usinor et Sacilor fusionnent, et la Lorraine, aux nombreux outils obsolètes, décline au profit du Nord. Et l'usine de Fos chemine indépendamment, focalisée sur l'export dans le bassin méditerranéen.

Donc, pour rester dans un schéma simple (destiné à des élèves de première générale à qui il faut définir rien que les mots fonte, acier ou sidérurgie et qui confondent le charbon avec le charbon de bois, alors imagine le coke !) je rajoute une flèche partant de Lorraine pour aller à Fos-sur-Mer, c'est bien ça ? À ton avis, la flèche partant de Moselle pour finir sur la mer du Nord est à retirer ou non ? Peut-être dans ce cas en rajoutant des dates ou simplement des décennies ?

Oui, la flèche qui part de la Lorraine devrait pointer vers Fos-sur-Mer. En mettre une vers Dunkerque avec une date serait compliquer et alimenter une polémique stérile. Parce qu'il y a un mouvement différent selon que l'on traite des aciers plats (ce qu'évoque ta carte), les aciers longs (morts à petit feu sans bouger, il va falloir que je complète fr:Sidérurgie#Produits plats), les aciers spéciaux (évoqués dans ta carte, et qui agonisent) et les inox (qui sont partis en Belgique en 2005).

Le mouvement vers Fos a coûté fort cher aux lorrains : ils sont partis trop tard, vers nulle part, sans la meilleure technologie. Heureusement, ils ont humblement demandé aux japonais de leur dessiner l'agencement général, qui reste encore LA référence en Europe. Borvan53 (talk) 22:29, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

Fichier modifié : est-ce correct ? J'ai rajouté un repère chrono dans le titre (années 1970). Faut-il rajouter les flèches du Massif central et des Alpes vers Fos ? Oui les 2 correctifs sont bons ! Mais à regarder encore ce fichier, je relève une autre erreur : les sidérurgies électriques des Alpes et du Massif Central sont symbolisées par un croquis de haut fourneau. Je t'inviterai à remplacer ce haut fourneau par celui d'un four électrique, comme file:Electric Arc Furnace.png. Désolé de te donner du boulot, mais je peux le faire moi-même...

Quant à mettre des flèches des bassins flèches du Massif central et des Alpes vers Fos, je suis assez neutre. C'est une migration avérée (mes sources supra le prouvent), mais le mouvement a aussi généré une spécialisation des sites anciens et nouveaux (par exemple, l'inox est devenu une commodité distincte des aciers spéciaux), qui sont devenus complémentaires.

J'ai vu que tu avais contribué à quelques articles relatifs à la sidérurgie en France (étant un gros contributeur sur ce thème, je les suis). Faire un article dédié serait un trop gros boulot pour moi, probablement parce que je connais trop bien le sujet. Peut-être en se limitant à une liste, ça serait gérable... Je pense que c'est une tâche à haut risque car notre pays a abrité des sidérurgies totalement distinctes dans leurs principes et leurs évolutions. Déjà, faire un point sur une période précise est très difficile. Par exemple, ta carte fait l'impasse sur la sidérurgie normande, en sursis dans les années 1970, mais qui ne le savait pas. Et je ne saurais pas comment la comparer à celle du bassin stéphanois. Autre exemple : j'ai eu énormément de mal à recentrer sur les années 1970 l'article fr:Crise de la sidérurgie dans le bassin lorrain qui, avant, mêlait tout et n'importe quoi : les nazis, Mittal, De Gaule, la CGT, etc. Alors, si on regarde un peu plus dans le passé, on n'est pas arrivé ! J'ai rajouté Mondeville (dont j'ignorais même l'existence) et Boulogne-sur-Mer. D'après toi, la mention sur les fours électriques en légende est-elle correcte et suffisante (la cible est tout de même des lycéens) ?

Côté article, j'ai souvent le même problème : à vouloir bien faire, on en arrive à produire l'équivalent d'une somme, alors qu'un des objectifs est peut-être de faire de la vulgarisation facile d'accès (pas trop long et pas trop technique). Résultat : après plusieurs expérience épuisante, on n'ose plus se lancer, par manque de temps et de volonté face au gros travail de documentation nécessaire. Impec pour la carte, je n'ai absolument rien à redire.

Pour les articles de synthèse, c'est effectivement difficile. A cause de la somme de travail. Mais aussi parce que toute synthèse est une interprétation : elle doit être sourcée, et risque d'être vite obsolète. Quand je pense à ce que disaient mes directeurs quand j'ai été embauché à la Sollac il y a 15 ans, et ce qu'ils disent (en anglais) maintenant, tout a bien changé. Et quand j'entends les retraités (dont certains étaient des cadres dirigeants) donner leur vision du métier, je rigole bien. La sidérurgie sur l'eau ? Les allemands ont démontré, et expérimenté, la vanité du concept : les usines de Dillingen et de la Rhur tournent à fond, alors que l'histoire de celle de Brème n'a jamais été qu'une longue agonie. L’usine de ThyssenKrupp au Brésil construite 2008 à failli engloutir la multinationale (les points de ressemblance avec Fos sont légions). L'exemple de Mittal le montre : une stratégie n'est bonne que si les circonstances économiques la favorisent... voilà qui peut donner un fil conducteur à une synthèse, peut-être. Pour les articles (généralistes genre Histoire de la métallurgie et de la sidérurgie dans le bassin lorrain, conceptuels tel que « Sidérurgie sur l'eau », ou plus précis genre Solmer), si jamais tu te relances là-dedans, sache que ce sera d'intérêt public, notamment pour nous autres les scolaires qui sont demandeurs (et ça m'évitera d'enseigner des notions approximatives ou carrément fausses).
