File tagging File:Allison Jones Rushing.jpg
This media was probably deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Allison Jones Rushing.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Allison Jones Rushing.jpg]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Copyright status: File:Deepak Gupta.jpg
This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Deepak Gupta.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Request
Hello! I saw your amazing work with audio recordings and was wondering if you could upload an audio of Vice presidents Dick Cheney, Dan Quayle, Nelson Rockefeller, Spiro Agnew and any other VPs you’d like, I don’t have much experience with uploading audio thus why I’m asking you, let me know if you decide to help me out, have a good day! Robertus Pius (talk) 02:12, 1 April 2023 (UTC)
- I've gone ahead and done so for both Cheney and Quayle alongside reuploading a more clear audio recording for Gore too. That being said, I personally can't seem to find any good public domain audio recordings of the others right now so someone else might have to locate and apply those audio files. LosPajaros (talk) 21:46, 1 April 2023 (UTC)
- Perfect! Thank you so much, your work is much appreciated. Robertus Pius (talk) 03:58, 2 April 2023 (UTC)
Question
Is there a way you could re-upload this recording but shorten it to minutes 15:03 - 14:02 (give or take a few seconds). It’s the most famous part of the speech, I think it would be better for the infobox of Reagan then the current one. Lemme know if you can, thanks Robertus Pius (talk) 02:55, 7 April 2023 (UTC)
- Forgot to attach the file Lmao, File:Reagan Brandenburg Gate speech.ogg Robertus Pius (talk) 02:56, 7 April 2023 (UTC)
- Yeah, I've cut the portion between those time frames where he's not intercut with applause
- File:Ronald Reagan on Nuclear Arms Reductions.ogg
Recorded June 12, 1987
- That being said, while I think it is notable I'm not sure in regards to audio quality it's as good of a voice box as the one currently provided as there are some spectators who do clap while he's speaking in addition to the general environmental noise being more notable in this audio recording compared to the current one. LosPajaros (talk) 03:15, 7 April 2023 (UTC)
- Actually I don’t mind the applause, it’s what he’s saying that’s important. The part about the Berlin Wall is very important in American history, it should be the audio recording for his infobox. Robertus Pius (talk) 03:27, 7 April 2023 (UTC)
- While I think that some level of weight is important, ultimately, the Audio files are meant to give a representation of the person's voice. Voice Boxes are available and should be added to non-governmental figures afterall so I ultimately think there needs to be a balance with audio quality comming first, correct representation of their voice from the time period in which they were in the public eye (i.e. not using a voice clip of someone that's different from how they spoke when their voice is notably different due too influence by age, sickness, etc.) coming second, and then after that historical importance coming third. Historically important media clips can be present within the biography section of the individual in question afterall. LosPajaros (talk) 03:45, 7 April 2023 (UTC)

- Hey, the audio this clip is from and the link of the video in question is from C-Span which is permissible to be used as a "work of the Federal Government" under prior rules. I'm not sure why this specific clip is being marked for possible copyright violation. LosPajaros (talk) 00:41, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
Over categorization
Please do not put categories and subcategories of the same subject on your uploads. For instance see on of the your numerous uploads that I had to edit : diff. Please keep only the most related subcategories. Pierre cb (talk) 04:03, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
- Sorry, I wasn't aware that that would be a problem on your end. If I may ask, if it's a problem for there to be broad categories applied to media files, how come there are such a large quantity of broad subcategories that Wikimedia offers to put in regardless? - The audio file in question is a work of C-Span and as such is in accordance with Wikimedia policy that it is public domain as it was marked as a product of the U.S. government upon uploading. LosPajaros (talk) 23:09, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
- The video on YouTube says "WH.GOV" and is from an account maintained by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). You can also find it in the archives themselves, by scrolling WAY down to 4 years ago. I'm not 100 percent sure but judging by this, I would assume that it is public domain. If you upload the video referring to the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal license and then extract audio from it (e.g., 2 to 3 minutes of audio from 0:58 to 3:30 or thereabouts) and upload that, that might fulfill the license requirement. - I had updated the source material for that link with the correct White House Governmental Audio from the 'Trump White House Archived' Youtube channel and despite that it still was deleted. Is there a reason as to why that was the case or was I supposed to have notified them in advance that I had updated the material in question? LosPajaros (talk) 21:03, 18 May 2023 (UTC)

SuperWIKI (talk) 03:29, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
- Please note that the only explicitly public domain material on C-SPAN is of floor activity in the House and Senate chambers. Anything else is largely under non-commercial use permission, which Wikimedia Commons does not permit - there must be permission for commercial use of files uploaded to Commons.
- I've managed to switch the C-SPAN URLs of audio files covering hearings to URLs from the committee's own website, which would be in the public domain as a government-owned stream, and where the audio is near-identical. The rest in the deletion request are of footage where I could not find any copyright justification. I still appreciate the work that you do for inspiring me, but these files will likely be nominated for deletion in the future regardless. My sincerest apologies. SuperWIKI (talk) 03:35, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
- Yeah, it looks like the ones which are going to be deleted all stem from Senate Press Conferences which for some reason don't actually appear to have an official governmental audio or video source from them which is pretty unfortunate. Most of the audio files for the current senators should still be fine however. It's a bit annoying that Senate Democratic Leadership doesn't actually publish audio or video for their press conferences which you'd assume they would do instead of relying on private outlets to be the sole distributors of their information but so be it. It shouldn't be that difficult to find alternative audio sources for those senators in question that comply with those rules. LosPajaros (talk) 00:49, 14 May 2023 (UTC)
