Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 06:09, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

File:Kilmacreehy_Stone_Head.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. [copied from an e-mail]
Hi James
I note that you deleted some images from the Liscannor Wiki I created for Kilmacreehy. However I did credit the original source (TCD) as per their licence agreement
i.e. (You are free: - to copy, distribute, display, and perform the work ... Under the following conditions: - Attribution. You must give the original author credit.
How should I have credited them as I would like to reinsert the images; the heads were vandalised and stolen a few years back and I would like people to see what they looked like.
Regards

- It's generally better to deal with simple problems on talk pages rather than by e-mail because it is much easier to reference other pages. E-mail is mostly for messages that need to be private for one reason or another.
- The answer is in the DR. The source license is CC-BY-SA-NC, so commercial use is prohibited. In order to encourage the widest possible distribution of images hosted here, Commons requires that they be free for commercial use.
- Unless you can get Tara to change the license, either by changing it on the web site or by sending an e-mail following the procedure at Commons:OTRS, we cannot host the images on Commons.

- Thanks very much for responding! I'm just copying my comment here in case you miss it on the deletion request: Can you please add the name of the book (and other information)? It is clearer for future use of the file, and people might just want to look it up and find out more about the topic? Thanks in advance. -- Deadstar (msg) 09:28, 12 October 2018 (UTC)
