Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 10:49, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

- The photo on panoramio is MY OWN contribution. I'm Philip Bastarache on Panoramio, i'm libertad aka Philip Bastarache here. So please, take off this pseudo violation. Libertad-pb (talk) 14:39, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
- If that is the case, please change the license on Panoramio, or at least add a comment there to verify what you say here.
- The other problem is the file you have taken from http://www.usherbrooke.ca/medias/photos/publication/campus/. The copyright notice on that page states "Tous droits réservés © Université de Sherbrooke" (all rights reserved), so that's a non-free photo. —LX (talk, contribs) 15:41, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
Ok. I added (aussi disponible sur Commons, par libertad-pb) in the title of de picture on panoramio. For the last picture, i got an authorization from the Université de Sherbrooke. Also, on this web site, it's right that the media can use it (disponibles pour répondre aux besoins des médias) so maybe that you need to learn french before to do anything. So please, leave this photo alone. 21:09, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
- Wikimedia Commons only accepts content that can be used by anyone for any commercial or non-commercial purpose in modified or unmodified form. Press photos usually do not meet those requirements. If the university have actually approved publication under a free license allowing anyone to use the photo for any purpose, please send that permission to OTRS. —LX (talk, contribs) 05:30, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

File tagging File:Robert pouliot.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Robert pouliot.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you. |
