Hello, Kotivalo!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

File:Fabric with print As Time Goes By.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Thanks for uploading File:John-julin.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Picture of the Year 2013 R2 Announcement

[edit]

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open!

[edit]
2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 7 March 2014. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Commons:Picture_of_the_Year/2013/Introduction/en Click here to learn more and vote »]

In both rounds, 4070 different people voted for their favorite images. Additionally, there were more image candidates (featured pictures) in the contest than ever before (962 images total).

 • In the first round, 2852 people voted for all 962 files

We congratulate the winners of the contest and thank them for creating these beautiful images and sharing them as freely licensed content:

 2. In second place, 155 people voted for an image of "Sviati Hory" (Holy Mountains) National Park in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine.
 3. In third place, 131 people voted for an image of a swallow flying and drinking.

Suspected CopyVio.

[edit]

Can you make clear, that you really have the copyrights for the following pictures?

--Hubertl 08:54, 3 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

They are pictures taken by me, with my own camera, in my brand new kitchen 2 years ago. What else can I do for you? –Kotivalo (talk) 09:19, 3 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
upload actual pictures with the same setting, including Exif data. What do you think, Uwe? --Hubertl 10:49, 4 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
This proposal of Hubertl is exactly what I also thought of last night.
However, if the pages in internet use the images of Kotivalo without crediting the photographer, it is a mass violation of the CC BY-SA 3.0 license. I wonder, why the photographer is taking this fact so relaxed.
Anyway, if I get a clear proof of the ownership, the abuse of the photographers copyright by other users won't be my cup of tea. --CEphoto, Uwe Aranas (talk) 10:59, 4 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You must be a rich man. A company in Australia claims that they applied the tiles to your kitchen walls: http://hmtilingexpress.com.au/ --CEphoto, Uwe Aranas (talk) 11:09, 4 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I think it is inevitable that if you donate your pics to Commons to be used by anyone for anything for free, there will be a lot of abuse concerning whatever copyright you have left. Kotivalo is not my real name, which doesn't appear anywhere, so I don't really care if my photos are attributed to Kotivalo, Santa Claus or anyone else. – I'll see if I can still find the original RAW files with EXIF info. –Kotivalo (talk) 19:04, 4 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I also do not care how you deal with it when someone uses your pictures incorrectly. But I'm worried about images, which may be licensed incorrectly as an image with the copyright of another person outside of Commons, who may have no idea what happens with his pics. You won´t probably sue anyone who uses your images in Australia without specifying the license, but it may be that the real rightholders sue this company, then, they will argue, that these pictures are from Commons and those always be free.
What do we do then? The rights holders do not know who you are, but he may sue the Foundation as an operator and maintainer of Wikimedia Commons. I have made thee a proposal how the problem can be solved (see above). You already have read it, but didn´t respond yet.
Please clarify the within three days, otherwise I have to suggest to delete the pictures. I think, Uwe Aranas will agree whith me. --Hubertl 10:21, 8 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I really don't understand what's going on here. I make a bona fide entry of my picture, among many others, for QI assessment and all I get in reply is a copyvio accusation of half a dozen other pix from the same session, plus a nasty remark on one of them which I know is not very good (=the attempted combination). I have declared my copyright to these pictures when uploading, just like I have for hundreds of others, and I don't feel responsible for who does what with my images afterwards. Also, I cannot find the original RAW files with the EXIF data, and I don't see how they would prove my copyright. –Kotivalo (talk) 11:54, 8 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, here's a recent picture of my kitchen in its present state. I seems the EXIF info didn't get through again, I don't know why, sometimes it comes, sometimes not. Is this sufficient? –Kotivalo (talk) 12:16, 8 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

File:Proof-of-Kotivalo's-copyright-to-kitchen-pix.jpg

No. It is not sufficient. Do you think, we are stupid enough, that we do not see the cheat within this composita? Go on, proof us wrong, take a full size photo without pixelated parts and EXIF. --CEphoto, Uwe Aranas (talk) 12:24, 8 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Kotivalo (talk) 12:38, 8 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Fine, but why did you need 5 days for that? Please clear the picture above. [1]--Hubertl 13:55, 8 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Why? Because you don't like it? –Kotivalo (talk) 15:08, 8 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

When categorising files, please avoid placing them into several categories that are directly linked within the same tree (e.g. a parent category and a child category – like Category:United Kingdom and Category:London), to prevent over-categorization of files and over-population of categories. Museoviraston kuvien lähdetiedot

[edit]

Hei! Finnasta otettujen kuvien tapauksessa suositeltavaa on lisäksi merkitä aina myös inventaarionumero, jolloin kuva on aina yksilöitävissä, vaikka Finnan linkit jossain vaiheessa muuttuisivatkin. Kaikki nämä tiedot saa tavallista Information-mallinetta helpommin ilmoitettua Photograph-mallineella, jossa on niille valmiit kentät. Kuvan File:Hyvon Kudeneule, Viljo Revell.jpg osalta kävin jo lisäämässä tarpeelliset tiedot. ––Apalsola tc 21:19, 18 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
