User talk:KnowIG
Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump. |

Critically evaluate Flickr licenses
|
File:Ana_Ivanovic_AO_2011.jpg has been marked as a copyright violation. You may have preserved the information shown on Flickr correctly when transferring the image here, but the Flickr uploader is not the copyright holder of this image. Either the image was created by someone else, or it is a derivative of someone else's work. As stated in Commons:Licensing, only the copyright holder may issue a license, so the one shown on Flickr is invalid.
Always remember to critically evaluate Flickr licenses. Photostreams with professional-looking photographs, album covers, posters, and images in a wide range of styles or quality taken by many different cameras often indicate that the Flickr uploader either does not understand or does not care about copyright matters. See Commons:Questionable Flickr images for a list of known bad Flickr users.

americanistadechiapa is listed as a bad flickr user, the image in question is from the Associated Press. Americanistadechiapa is someone grabbing images from the internet and uploading them to their flickr. The copyright holder can be however verified online in http://www.apimages.com, search for 11011815367. --Martin H. (talk) 21:21, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 11:02, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

Blocked
[edit]You are indefinitely blocked for misusing Commons to continue to make disruptive unblock requests related to your block in the English Wikipedia after access to your talk page there has been disabled; see en:User talk:KnowIG#Reblocked and User talk:Sandstein#Who the hell do you think you are. The purpose of Commons is not to continue disputes from another project. I will unblock you if you agree to request unblock on the English Wikipedia only through that Wikipedia's venues. Sandstein (talk) 09:48, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
- I will contact you where ever I like. You have a case to answer sunshine. And obviously haven't done your job properly — Preceding unsigned comment added by KnowIG (talk • contribs)
- If you continue to send me e-mails concerning your block, you may be re-blocked with e-mail access disabled. Many administrators have concluded that your block on the English language wikipedia was an appropriate reaction to the disruption caused by you. Rather than attacking these administrators, you should focus on convincing the one remaining authority of appeal, en:WP:BASC, that you merit an unblock. This is my final communication in this matter. If you cannot currently edit, you may be caught in an autoblock, but because the Commons autoblock finder seems to be broken, you may need to wait 24 hours before you can edit again. Sandstein (talk) 17:50, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
- Because you continue to send me disruptive e-mails from your Commons account concerning your block on the English Wikipedia, to wit, the following:
- "Anytime someone stands up to you and you run off like a two year old. Grow up. Man up and communicate with someone. Give me back all privledges now or suffer. i.e. i will get rid of your admin priviledges"
- I am re-blocking your Commons account with e-mail access disabled, as per my warning above. Sandstein (talk) 11:18, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

- Note: KnowIG has now also vandalized my German Wikipedia user talk page ([1]) and user page ([2]), and has been (blocked indefinitely) on de.wp for this. Sandstein (talk) 05:59, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
- I have now also blocked the IP User:2.102.153.60 for block evasion and continued abuse per [3] and [4]. Sandstein (talk) 05:43, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
- And now User:2.102.255.224. As the user uses IPs to evade his block, I am semiprotecting this talk page. Sandstein (talk) 18:41, 24 April 2011 (UTC)
