Your most memorable shot 2020
[edit]Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,
Over the course of the past two years, we've been sharing pictures that have a special meaning with each other at the start of the new year. Today, I'm inviting you add your most memorable shot of 2020 to this page:
I hope you, your familiy, and your friends are well during these difficult times. I wish you all the best for 2021 and I can't wait to see what your most memorable shot of 2020 looks like.

Next Commons Photographers meeting featuring large format photographer Ben Horne
[edit]Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,
I'm happy to invite you to our next virtual meeting on Saturday, March 20, at the usual time. As I mentioned during our last get-together, I'd like to invite external guests every now and then, given that it seems good to expand our view and learn something from someone outside our community.
Our first external guest, Ben Horne, will talk about large format wilderness photography, followed by a question-and-answer session. Ben is maybe one of best known contemporary large format photographers in the United States. On his excursions to national parks, he shoots 8×10 film and talks about his adventures on his YouTube channel which has attracted more than 48,000 followers so far. He is YouTube's first, and longest active landscape photography vlogger and I'm thrilled that he has agreed to join our next meeting and talk about his experiences.
If you're interested in joining this meeting, please sign up on the page below:
Also, don't forget to post your question(s) prior to the meeting on the following page in order to ensure a good and fruitful question-and-answer session:
I'm very much looking forward to this event and I hope you'll be able to join.
All the best, --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 21:38, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
Reminder: Commons Photographers meeting tomorrow
[edit]Just a quick reminder: the meeting with large format-photographer Ben Horne will happen tomorrow, Saturday, March 20. If you haven't done yet, please consider signing up for the event and add your questions to this page. This will be our first virtual meeting in 2021 and I'd be super happy if you could join. All the best, --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 16:38, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
Re mass deletion requests
[edit]Hello,
Since you did not respond to my response to your post on my talk page, I withdrew my requests for deletion. I do not know how to perform a batch deletion for a bot that has uploaded millions of images.. But my requests still show up on the list and I do not know how to fix that. I will never request deletion of images again. In the past, I was able to do request batch deletions for images by those who uploaded relatively few images. Sorry for all the inconvenience I have caused. Best wishes, Krok6kola (talk) 12:46, 2 May 2021 (UTC)
- p.s. Although the images in question were uploaded by User:DPLA bot, its contribution history only goes up to April 15, 2021, they show up in "Media needing categories as of 30 April 2021". For "Media needing categories as of 1 May 2021" there are 36,726 images, making these categories virtually impossible for editors like me to deal with. No one has dealt with the 17,942 remaining in 30 April yet. For early today, there are already 19,690 uploads needing categories. What happens on my computers is that with so many images, mostly they fail to load. I do not know how to accomplish what you suggest. Sorry I made things worse. Wiki Loves Monuments in the United States 2021
[edit]Hello! Last year you contributed to Wiki Loves Monuments 2020 in the United States. Thanks to people like you, it was a great success with over 1,000 people contributing almost 6,000 photos of cultural and historic sites from all over the country. Hundreds of these photos now help illustrate Wikipedia articles, improving our open knowledge about United States history, culture, and heritage. If you haven't seen the winners yet, be sure to check them out here.
I'm pleased to say that we're back this year with Wiki Loves Monuments 2021 in the United States through the month of October, and I'd like to welcome you to participate once again in the event. Check out our updated event page for more information.
Once again, thank you for participating in Wiki Loves Monuments 2020, and we hope to see you again in this year's event! If you'd like to respond to this message directly, please do so on on my talk page. ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 21:19, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
Response to WLM-US invite
[edit]Hi, Kevin - I'd love to participate in Wiki Loves Monuments 2021, but unfortunately it's not possible this year- my husband and I have moved across country and are still sorting boxes and counting every nickel and dime. Next year!
Cheers,
Martha ture https://mttamalpaisphotos.com — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 2600:6C64:7C7F:D3E:9F6:E5EB:4059:3D26 (talk) 22:38, 11 October 2021 (UTC)

Response to WLM-US invite
[edit]Thank you Kevin for the invitation to submit photos for the 2021 photo contest. Can you tell me where the photos are that I submitted last year. When I go to the Masonic Temple in Winona, MN I don't see them on that page. — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 207.138.194.157 (talk) 11:51, 12 October 2021 (UTC)
- Hi there! If you remember the username you used when you uploaded your photos, I'll be able to more easily help you out. Not all photos uploaded end up being used on Wikipedia, but they are still valuable to have on Commons for use on other Wikimedia projects as well as by the public. ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 05:55, 22 October 2021 (UTC)
Hotel Des Artists
[edit]Hello Kevin,
I participated in the the "Wikipedia loves monuments" last year, with a photo of the Soldier's and Sailor's monument in Riverside Park NYC.
Looking at the map of the places in NYC from the "Wiki Loves Monuments" map,
I noted the "red" pins meaning the photos for those sites that were considered insufficient or outdated.
I noticed a red pin for the Hotel Des Artists at 1 West 67th Street, NYC. What caught my eye was: From the Wikipedia article:
"The building is also noted for its pastoral floor-to-ceiling paintings by Howard Chandler Christy, one of its earliest residents."
There are a number of his works attached to the article, but no pictures of the " pastoral floor to ceiling" paintings that Mr. Christy did.
I was thinking that being able attach those to/in the article would be helpful and informative.
What I wished you ask you about is, could there be a letter of introduction that I might give to the management of the building confirming that I would be there to take the photos of the Christy paintings? It could help gaining access to the paintings, rather than my approaching them as an unknown person.
Also noticed that "Sunnyside Gardens" in Queens NY has a red pin. This is a neighborhood, so a number of pictures would need to be taken to give an adequate representation. A general letter "To whom it may concern" that I might show to building management, of which there are several, could also be helpful, as many of the "gardens" are surrounded by buildings and only residents are allowed in. Being able to go into them and take pictures from that vantage point, would I think give people a good idea about what makes the neighborhood unique. I appreciate Wikipedia and would like to help to get the red dots, green.
Thanks for any advice about these.
Best, Daniel Hicks danielhawkhicks@gmail.com
