Your best shot 2019

[edit]

Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,

It's early 2020, which means it's time again to look back at photographs taken over the course of the past 12 months. As always, I'm curious – what would you consider your best shot of 2019 and why? I invite you to share your image and your thoughts in order to provide others with the opportunity to celebrate, learn, and enjoy:

Your best shot 2019

Thanks for all your effort in sharing your vision of the world with others under a free license!

Aloha e Kevin,

Just want to say thank you for keeping me in the loop of Hawaii submissions for Wiki Loves Monuments 2019. It is very nice to see more photos of my state through the eyes of other photographers! Hope you are well. Enjoy Summer.

Rename and info-Nance photo

[edit]

I just uploaded the original version of File:Elizabeth Nance, PhD-2.jpg as it seems you need it. I've put in a rename request and I added an extra "File" -- File:FileElizabeth Nance, PhD-1.jpg I've asked Nance to have her husband send in his own permissions email using that form.

Seven Pandas (talk) 12:02, 20 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Someone did the rename. Still waiting on her husband to send the email. Seven Pandas (talk) 13:08, 20 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Commons Photographers User Group: Meeting on September 26 and other stuff

[edit]

Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,

I've got a quick update for you, containing three items:

  • I’d like to invite you to our group’s second Virtual Meeting on Saturday, September 26, 2020. As last time, this meeting will serve as an opportunity to get to know each other better, share learnings, and connect in times of the global COVID-19 pandemic. If you'd like to present, please add your name and the proposed topic to the list on the talk page.
  • Also, I'd like to start a conversation about how we should be sharing responsibility for the user group going forward. I'd love to get some help when it comes to organizing things and I'm convinced that we can achieve more if a couple of people helped with coordinating stuff.
  • Finally, the Wikimedia Foundation has asked me to spread the word about their latest survey: Universal Code of Conduct Survey. The goal is to create a safer environment on Wikimedia projects and the Foundation gathers feedback prior to coming up with a first draft.

Hope to see you at the Zoom meeting in September!

All the best, --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 18:48, 15 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Reminder: User Group Meeting this Saturday

[edit]

Dear Commons Photographers User Group member,

This is a quick reminder that our second virtual meeting will take place this Saturday, September 26. The agenda entails presentations about drone photography, about the story behind a featured picture, and about the future of LRMediaWiki. We'll also discuss photographers’ contacts with the Wikimedia Foundation and the election of representatives for our user group. You'll find information about all of this on the event page:

I'm also inviting you to share some information about yourself and your photography work with other members of the user group on our new membership list:

I hope you're well during these difficult times. All the best, --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 15:53, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

WLM problems

[edit]

Hi Kevin, just to let you know the NHRP website has been having some problems, with knock-on effects for our WLM users trying to upload media here on Commons. We've had an extensive discussion with Largely_Forgotten about the issue, they've very kindly reported the issue at Commons:Village pump/Technical and Commons:Upload Wizard feedback, but I've promised that I would report the issue to the US WLM organisers, so I'm posting to your talk page to do so. If you need an admin to help fix any of this, please don't hesitate to ping me. Nick (talk) 21:19, 3 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Nick: apologies for the late reply (I did see your message when you first sent it and appreciate it). Been keeping an eye out for any more issues with the NRHP site, but fortunately haven't seen any. Hopefully we don't see any more downtime through the month. Thanks, ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 05:33, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Formatting is OK now, thanks!

[edit]

Hi Kevin, Nice to hear from you. Looks like everything OK, I've been busy with other duties; but today I'm back to uploading some 'Juneau Downtown Historic District' photos. Hope that you are in good spirits and health, take care. Gillfoto 02:16, 19 October 2020 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Monuments 2020 entries - Categories - "missing"

[edit]

Good Morning.

My entries show a long list of Hidden Categories, including many "missing" designators. Did I inadvertently neglect to complete necessary steps when uploading? Will these impact my eligibility? In particular, "Images from Wiki Loves Monuments 2020 in the United States missing state categorization" is confusing -- I selected the appropriate states from the drop-down list when uploading.

Thank you very much for your assistance.

Hi @HimalayanSnowLeopard: You're all good, no need to worry about those categories. As long as your files identify the subject in the description (which yours do), then they'll be eligible. ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 06:21, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! Kevin from Wiki Loves Monuments in the United States here. I know it's been a tough year for everyone, and I hope this message finds you well.

You are receiving this message as a participant in last year's Wiki Loves Monuments 2019 in the United States. First, a recap: We concluded with over 5,200 great photos of U.S. historical sites made possible by contributors like you. If you haven't yet seen, last year's U.S. winners are viewable here, and the international winners here (including multiple from the United States!).

Second, as you may have seen from the banner notices on Wikipedia, this year's Wiki Loves Monuments 2020 in the United States has been running through October instead of September in consideration of the pandemic and the hectic start of the fall season. Despite the challenges of the year, we're thrilled that the United States has surpassed 5,000 photo contributions so far.

October 31st is the last day to upload photos for the U.S. competition this year. If you've already contributed, thank you so much - and it's great to have you again this year! If you haven't yet contributed but are interested in participating again, you're invited to join us during these last couple days. Check out the United States event page for more information. Remember that you are welcome to upload and submit photos of historic sites that you've taken any time in the past, not just this month.

As always, thank you for participating in Wiki Loves Monuments! If you'd like to respond to this message directly, please do so on on my talk page. ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 07:20, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

New logo for this weekend's Wikiconference North America?

[edit]

I noticed you uploaded the logo last year at File:WikiConference_North_America_2019_Logo.png and wondered how we might make another for this weekend's online conference. The theme is online | en ligne | en linea. KarenJoyce (talk) 00:04, 9 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Commons Photographers User Group meeting on Saturday

[edit]

Dear Commons Photographers User Group member,

I'd like to invite you to our next virtual meeting on Saturday, December 12. We'll have two presentations: Habib Mhenni aka Dyolf77 will answer the question Do "we" need DSLRs anymore? and Martin Falbisoner will walk us through the making of his featured picture File:Caribbean_Sea_-_Long_Exposure.jpg.

If you can make it, please add your name to the list of attendees to this page:

I hope to see you in three days. Also, I wish you, your family, and your friends all the best for 2021. Your contributions to Commons make a big difference.

Warmly, --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 14:09, 9 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
