Reverting files to old versions back and forth
[edit]What's the point? TFerenczy (talk) 16:13, 1 January 2023 (UTC)
- Sometimes I Need The Older Versions Of The Files, So I Revert The File To Take It And Then Revert It Again Back To Its Modern/Latest Version Ketchup-ze-Sauce (talk) 16:41, 1 January 2023 (UTC)
- Reverting the file is unnecessary – you can open the previous version simply by clicking on its Thumbnail or Date/Time in its File history section. Every time you revert a file it alerts all the users who have that file in their watchlist. –Vuccala 17:12, 14 January 2023 (UTC)
- I Know I Can Open It Through Those Ways, But Its Not About Opening A Previous Version, Its About Downloading Said Previous Version At Its Biggest File Size Possible, So Its Sadly A Necessary "Evil"(?) I Have To Do, Unless If There Is A Way Of Doing Exactly What Im Talking About Without Having To Revert, Which I Have Tried Many Times To Find A Way For And Have Always Failed But If It Exists, Tell Me Ketchup-ze-Sauce (talk) 22:00, 15 January 2023 (UTC)
- Once you have opened the file, you can download it by right-clicking to open a context menu and selecting "Save Page As..." (or depending on which browser you're using it might have a slightly different name). There are also a couple other ways to download a file once you know its URL, but this should be this simplest. And the file you see when clicking the date/time in the file history is indeed the raw data that was uploaded at that time. It is not a smaller or compressed or otherwise inferior version. - The .svg format is preferred for flags because unlike raster images like .png and .jpg, an .svg creates the flag out of infinitely resizable geometric shapes and colors. When you save a .svg you can then open it in Inkscape and play around with the flag's colors and geometry yourself, and even save it as .PNG way way bigger than the preview pngs Wikimedia offers. But if you just want to convert an .svg to .png without installing any programs, you can use a convertor site like DEEditor (to save, click Export→Image→(input your desired resolution in the bottom boxes)→Download Image). –Vuccala 01:15, 17 January 2023 (UTC)

Continued reversions
[edit]Hi. I see that (despite our previous efforts) you are continuing to do temporary reversions. E.g. you reverted File:Flag of the Soviet Union (1922–1923).svg multiple times. Please stop. Adding superfluous reversions to a file's history is mildly disruptive. If you are having trouble downloading old versions of files, you could ask for help. If you have another reason for doing this, please explain yourself. TilmannR (talk) 23:10, 14 February 2023 (UTC)

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |
