Source of uploads

[edit]

Hi. I couldn't help noticing that you've been uploading a lot of images of shields as your own work. Your clearly didn't create them yourself though. Otherwise they would be out of scope as personal artwork. So do you mind if I ask where your getting the images from and why your taking credit for someone else's artwork? Thanks. Adamant1 (talk) 09:14, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there - thanks for your message, and I completely understand your concerns so let me explain. Yes I've created digitised versions of just the shield component from the full coat of arms. So not including the crest, supporters or anything overlapping or outside the full coat of arms from the original. Therefore it is a new image created by me.
For example the coat of arms of Lord of Pittenweem:
https://baronyofpittenweem.com/reference/stories/neil-bromley.jpg (Actually created by Neil Bromley who designs the majority of the baron's arms and I know him personally and an on a professional level as I've commissioned him for work, there is certainly no issues with him in what I'm dpoing)
https://www.armorialregister.com/arms-sco/zangenberg-c-arms.html
You will see that the arms are described as "Per pile reversed Or and Vert, in chief two Maunches Gules and in base a scroll Argent with seal pendant"
So here is my version of just the shield: https://www.imghippo.com/i/ymzq81723288930.png
Here is another artists interpretation of the same coat of arms from the description:
https://baronage.scot/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Pittenweem-Arms-1.png
You can see that the interpretation of the artist can vary but the descriptor of a coat of arms stays the same, but this is how coat of arms work, any artist can interpret.
Also please note I have permission from the barons to contribute their shields to the Baronage of Scotland page, I fully understand your concerns and thank you for your flag here and allowing me to explain. Kellycrak88 (talk) 11:24, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the explanation. I'm not really sure how that work as it's not my area of expertise, but I do recommend at least adding a brief description to your uploads of what your basing the shields on along with a source to whatever images of the originals your drawing them from. Otherwise don't be surprised if your images get nominated for deletion at some point. We kind of have a high standard when it comes to user generated content like shields, flags, and similar artwork that has a high chance of being used for disinformation. Not to say that's how your using the images but it's still an issue that leads to a lot of them getting deleted if they aren't properly sourced and described. Thanks. --Adamant1 (talk) 11:45, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
thank you for bringing this to my attention, this will take several days work, but I do see on Scottish Clan Chiefs they have a Lord Lyon special license tag for displaying scottish coats of arms - so I will it it done.
On a side note, if I may ask, how do I go about properly uploading a photo to a bio page with the proper permissions? thanks so much Kellycrak88 (talk) 13:55, 10 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
