Hello, Karwelis!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Concerns

[edit]

Given the fact that the artist you have uploaded images by is now dead I understand any release of copyright would have to be done via COM:OTRS and no other means I'm afraid. This is required to protect the copyright holder as I am sure you will understand. They will be deleted for now however they would be very welcome if the licensing can be confirmed. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 15:39, 10 August 2011 (UTC) yes the artist is dead, he was my father and i own all copyrights and took the photos in the first place. it would have been nice if you would have asked first now i have to do it all over againKarwelis (talk) 15:59, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nope - if you send the authority via COM:OTRS someone can undelete them (I will myself if around). It is simply to protect you the copyright holder from someone trying to rip you off - regards --Herby talk thyme 16:04, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

ok, i have to go do my volunteer time at a local museum, i shall do that when i return. thank you.Karwelis (talk) 16:17, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

You claim these as "own work", but they are clearly scans of photographs. The key question is who took the original photos, because the copyright of the images resides with the creator of the original image, not with the person who creates the scan.--ukexpat (talk) 14:59, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

i own not only the photos i scaned but the original works done by the artist. i own all copyrightsKarwelis (talk) 15:56, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
