Hello, Jschuy!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Two questions

[edit]

I hope it's OK than I'm writing you in English. (Ob Sie kann nicht Englisch, dann sagen Sie daß hier, und ich auf mein schlechtes Deutsch fragen wird.)

1) You describe File:Hellma.jpg as your "own work". Does this mean you designed the logo? If not, it is probably still OK for Commons (it's at least very close to Textlogo), but shouldn't have this misleading statement.

2) What exactly is the relationship between File:Gebaeude.jpg (an awfully generic file name, by the way) and File:HellmaVorOrt 2 157 montage.jpg? I am guessing from the names that the latter is derived from the former, but you should use the "other_versions" field in Information to make the relationship explicit.

Thanks in advance for any clarifications. You can answer here, or you can edit the files directly. Feel free to answer in German if that's easier, I read it a lot better than I write it. - Jmabel ! talk 18:05, 15 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

English is fine! Regarding your first questions it's unknown who designed the Hellma Logo because it's such a long time ago. On the other hand it's nothing else than writing the letters in the typography Eurostyle and adding the crown. At least I decided to go for "own work" because I thought it's the proberty of the Hellma company anyway as a registrated brand name. So please tell me what I should do to fit the rules?

Regarding 2) I would really like to deleate the file. Is this possible? Anyway I don't know why I cannot see the file. Can you see it? Probably it was in CMYK.

I' ll try to make the corrections as soon as possible — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jschuy (talk • contribs) 16 July 2010 (UTC)

1) "Own work" means your own personal work; clearly not the case here (the logo is the Hellma company's work). I'll fix that one accordingly.
2) I'm still trying to understand: which is the original photo? Did you add or remove text on the logo? Either way, we should keep the un-enhanced image; keeping the one you modified is optional. - Jmabel ! talk 15:40, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
