Hello, JordyMeow!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Your photo

[edit]

Hi Jordy,

I thought you might like to know that I've used two of your photos on my website:

http://www.unmissablejapan.com/etcetera/battleship-island

I've acknowledged them by making them link back to the original pages on Wikimedia.

They’re great photos – thanks very much for making them available under Creative Commons,

cheers,

Mike

Gunkanjima Island photo date

[edit]

Hi. Thanks for uploading your photo taken on Gunkanjima Island. I took the liberty of changing the date from today's date (28 January 2014), as that is obviously not when it was taken, and changed it to "2012" based on the fact that it appears on your website dated 2012. However, maybe you could add the precise date it was taken at some point. I also took the liberty of rewording the caption, as presumably it doesn't show a ghost, and we need to be a bit more factual here. I hope you didn't mind! --DAJF (talk) 03:52, 28 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! No problem, I don't mind :) I will update the date later. About the photo of the Block 65 you reversed, can I upload a new version of the file with a sky? I am really not satisfied with the photo I originally uploaded, it is just not good. I would rather delete it completely but since I can't, I thought replacing it by the same kind of frame would be alright. Jordy Meow (talk) 03:58, 28 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again. Basically, images can only be overwritten if it's by another version of the same original image (such as when resizing or tweaking things like the white balance or brightness etc.). The guidelines on this are hidden away at Commons:Overwriting existing files. While I understand that you may not feel satisfied with an earlier image you have uploaded, I'm not sure that it is actually possible to delete files once they have been uploaded - unless they are technically problematic, such as being totally unusable. --DAJF (talk) 05:56, 28 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, understood. I will try to work on the original image and re-upload it. Meanwhile I uploaded the other image of the same place. Thanks for your explanation! Jordy Meow (talk) 06:44, 28 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please be more careful...

Really sorry about that. I will be more careful.

Quality image candidates

[edit]

Hi. Sorry to vote against your image of Itsukushima at QIC recently. I actually really like the atmospheric haikyo images you post on your website, but when it comes to images suitable for use on an encyclopedia like Wikipedia, I'm not sure it's such a good idea to retouch the images too much. The same goes for your Tokyo Skytree photo, which I refrained from commenting on. I would suggest uploading a higher-resolution image (the guideline says "at least 2 MB") and reverting to more natural colour. Can you not upload the original un-retouched images complete with EXIF data? Anyway, I hope you won't be disheartened, as you are obviously a very capable photographer, I would love to see some of your photos promoted to "Quality Image" status. Keep up the good work! --DAJF (talk) 16:04, 15 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! No problem, I really understand. I actually wondered if my photos were not too saturated for Wikipedia and especially the Itsukushima one. I decided that I will make two versions of my photos from now on, the first would be in "my style" and the second one would be more natural and suitable for Wikipedia. About the the low-resolution files, really sorry about that, it is a mistake. A few of my previously uploaded photos are this way. I will re-upload them. By the way, if you see any photos you would be interested to see in Wikipedia here (https://plus.google.com/photos/105801883552393114806/albums/5934859651800740481), let me know. Thanks a lot for your help, I really appreciate your comments :)

Comments perspective correction necessary. And by the way: Your photos, taken with professional equipment, deserve a higher resolution and EXIF data. --Cccefalon 15:19, 15 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
This is excellent, but I echo CCCefalon's desire to see higher resolution. 1920*1200, while the size of a standard screen, is hardly high resolution, and not even close to what that camera can produce. Mattbuck 23:58, 20 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Support Thank you for sharing the high resolution with Commons. --Cccefalon 11:09, 21 February 2014 (UTC)

If you upload the original file of Gunkanjima.jpg, I would try my hand for a more natural edit. I'm pretty confident that I could address all of the concerns people raised in its past status promotion discussions and get it promoted to potentially at least Valued Image status.--Reseletti (talk) 03:11, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
