Pay attention to licensing
|
Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content: images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose.
File:BSA A10 Golden Flash (1958) - engine.jpg seems to be free (or it would be proposed for deletion), but it was identified as having a wrong license. Usually, it is because a public domain image is tagged with a free license, or because the stated source or other information is not sufficient to prove the selected tag is correct. Please verify that you applied the correct license tag for this file. If you believe this file has the correct license, please explain why on the file discussion page.

- @Magog the Ogre: - The image was cropped from File:BSA A10 Golden Flash (1958) - 14525923650.jpg. This file has a Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 Generic licence, which was verified by the UploadWizard Extension. My understanding is that a derivative work should have the same licence as the original? --John B123 (talk) 18:57, 16 February 2019 (UTC)
- Yes, it should, which is why I changed it.[1] Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 20:29, 17 February 2019 (UTC)
- The box above suggests the licence currently on the page is incorrect hence my comment. --John B123 (talk) 21:11, 17 February 2019 (UTC)

Cropping images
[edit]By way of information for the future, when you want to crop an image, as you did with File:Amal 376 Monobloc carburettor fitted to a 1958 BSA A10 Golden Flash.jpg I suggest you use the CropTool that can be activated in your commons Preferences, under Gadgets. The CropTool will then appears in the left side of your screen. It saves everyone a lot of time because it transfers all the correct and appropriate information into the cropped image, such as source, license, author, etc. It even leaves a backlink to the original and visa versa so long as the original has been positively reviewed. That way all the proper information is there and does not need to be manually reviewed by volunteers. If you are just cropping a small bit of the image like a frame you can decide to overwrite the original image but for more major crops you should upload the cropped version as a separate new image, but you have a choice. I hope you can see how everyone can save time and frustration by using CropTool. Good luck. Ww2censor (talk) 22:26, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
