Bits
[edit]Thanks for the info on the admin board. I'm not on en wp much but if you feel I can help there let me know - cheers --Herby talk thyme 18:08, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
- Sure, thanks for the help. I'm not sure what more there is to do about this fellow - I'd like to see what others have to say. It is pretty obvious to me that he's nicked some of his other images from elsewhere and it would be nice to be able to do something about it. JohnInDC 19:24, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
Copyvio Vs. No Pemrission
[edit]Hi JohnInDC. I noticed you tagged File:Civita and Gateway.jpg for speedy deletion as copyright violation. Since the file had a third party source and author, the appropriate tag would be No permission. This gives the uploader a chance to review his/her upload and proceed with obtaining permission. The user might also be associated with the website. Using just 'copyvio' especially with a reason that repeats the source already given does not allow the user to do this efficiently. Copyvio should be used only if the user is obviously acting as the author. Thanks for your work! --ZooFari 16:24, 8 July 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. That's helpful and I will employ the practice in the future! JohnInDC (talk) 18:23, 8 July 2011 (UTC)
Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 17:51, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

Use of Image: West wing (1930-36) of Chevy Chase Elementary School, Chevy Chase, Maryland
[edit]If I wish to use your image <West wing (1930-36) of Chevy Chase Elementary School, Chevy Chase, Maryland> on a display of the work of Howard Cutler, how should the photo credit read - "Photograph by JohnInDC"?
- "John Dorsey" would do - thanks! JohnInDC (talk) 18:13, 1 May 2016 (UTC)
