Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump. |

Deletion of files on Commons
[edit]Hi! I would like to ask you not to delete files from Wikimedia Commons, as you did with File:Lohr, Joady June 2013.jpg. Wikimedia Foundation staff — with certain exceptions, mainly with regards to the Legal and Community Advocacy team — do not have the Commons' community permission to intervene with the internal goings-on of the project, which is managed by its volunteer community. In the future, please use existing community procedures for file deletion; otherwise, if you'd find yourself wanting to delete files that are of sensitive nature, please contact the LCA team or read up on the oversight feature (we also have an unofficial Oversighters' Handbook that explains some of the issues further). Thank you! odder (talk) 21:49, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
- My apologies, I was told that was how to delete your own photo. I no longer want my image accessible on the Staff page, nor accessible for others to use my image without me knowing about it. I will check the handbook to see if there are better instructions to use. Thanks! Jlohr (WMF) 21:58, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
- You're welcome. I'm sure the public documentation is better than any other internal document or advice you may have been pointed to. Feel free to also add a note in the HR handbook for staffers to say this is not the way to get files deleted, linking the above pages. The normal process works well for everyone. --Nemo 22:02, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
