Thank you for uploading files on Commons.

Please add license tag(s) (see Commons:Copyright tags for more information). I think {{PD-self}} is your case

Please add your files to appropriative pages and/or categories where other users could easily find them. For example to Category:Functions.

Please note that SVG is better format for this purpose.

Re: SVG image won't show

[edit]

I would upload as SVG, and I would like to as it is clearly better, but whenever I do this, some thumbnails don't show on the article page, on Wikibooks or Wikisource, which is the reason I upload them in the first place. They come up with a white and grey checquered background, and you can only actually see the SVG when you click on the link below the preview. For an example, see image:Slope_Field_1.svg. I'm using Adobe SVG viewer with Opera.

If you can tell me what it is I'm doing wrong, then I will be more than willing to use SVG over PNG. In the meantime, I try to make the PNGs large to give extra information. Alos, what is the best font to use for labelling SVG diagrams?

Thanks

Jjbeard 19:34, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It didn't show in Firefox 1.5 too. However Inkscape show image.
I think best place to ask SVG related questions is Commons talk:WikiProject Flags. Members of this project created many SVG images and I think have big experience with dealing with SVG problems.
--EugeneZelenko 14:53, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

(Note, I'm not a part of Project Flags, but I write SVG flags)

I had a look at the SVG and imo maybe its to do with how Illustrator deals with viewbox/enable-background or extensions. I've uploaded a working version of the SVG btw, so you should take a look.

Though I can't say anything about how well Illustrator works with SVG, Inkscape is a good open-source program which I've had no problems with. Inkscape (saving in Plain SVG) and text-editing is a good combination for me. Yaddah 23:42, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Category tags

[edit]

Can you explain why you're removing category tags from images? — Omegatron 23:33, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have chaged the category tags from Category:Electrical symbols to Category:Power Supplies as it is much easier to find the symbols that way (especially as the controlled and uncontrolled versions of the voltage source are so far apart). I have also put SVG versions in that category. Jjbeard 23:42, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

They should remain in the electrical symbols category, too. There is no reason to remove that. — Omegatron 01:18, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
But the Power Supplies category is a subcategory in the Electrical Symbols category. Jjbeard 00:40, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It shouldn't be. Such a category would have to be called Category:Power supply symbols. Where would photographs of power supply components or things like Image:Battery.svg go? Also, none of those objects is really a power supply. A voltage source connected to nothing is not supplying power, for instance. Ground is not a "supply". — Omegatron 02:02, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'll get on moving these symbols to a new category if you think that is a good idea. Sorry about this,Jjbeard 02:30, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I definitely think it should have "symbols" or "schematic symbols" at the end, if it's a subcat of the electrical symbols cat, but what the name should be I'm not sure; it's really just nitpicking. Maybe "Electrical source symbols"? Or something like that. — Omegatron 14:49, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bots will move a category for you if you put the right template in it, by the way. — Omegatron 14:53, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Variable Resistor.svg

[edit]

Hi, thanks for the corrected version of Image:Variable Resistor.svg. I would prefer to replace it with the corrected version rather than deleting it and adding it under a slightly different name. This keeps all links consistent and gives the benefit of your correction to all pages that use it. Just upload your image Image:Variable resistor.svg as a new version of Image:Variable Resistor.svg and everything is fine. Kind regards -- Dr. Schorsch 14:33, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can you tag circuit images

[edit]

You uploaded a bunch of replacements for my PNG images, such as Image:Autotransformer.svg, but you didn't include a category. Please add categories so the images can be found easily. For the transformer circuit symbol images, for instance, add Category:Transformers. — Omegatron 14:27, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

FET symbols

[edit]

You uploaded a bunch of SVG images of FET symbols, like Image:IGFET P-Ch Dep.svg, which is great, but they appear really small on the image description page. Would you want to re-make them at a larger size? Also, it would be nice if they were consistent with Image:BJT symbol NPN.svg, like the same size, shape, linewidths, and rounded line ends. For instance, they are used in the Transistor article in a table, but it doesn't look quite right because of the different styles:

PNP P-channel
NPN N-channel
BJT JFET

I was going to redo them in that style, but maybe you want to since they're your images? — Omegatron 01:38, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
