You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 10:48, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

If you created the content yourself, enter If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. This image consists of multiple images, you must provide sources and author for every image used in the collection. See Category:Montages of cities for examples. --Martin H. (talk) 23:43, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

Please provide a source for every small image used in the montage, provide source, author and license/copyright status of the image. See Category:Montages of cities for examples... All images are not your own work I can doubtlesly say. So placing Own work on it not solves the problem. --Martin H. (talk) 19:30, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
Copyright violations
[edit]
Hello Jabérien~commonswiki.
You have uploaded one or more files that are copyright violations. You have done so despite requests from editors not to do so, and despite their instructions. See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules by subject matter useful. This is your last warning. The next time you upload a file that violates copyright, you will be blocked. Please leave me a message if you have further questions. |
Martin H. (talk) 22:48, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
- Last warning: Do not copy any more images from other, non-free websites and claim them your Own work or your account will be blocked. --Martin H. (talk) 22:49, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
- Hey, You just deleted two pics I took with my own hands, can I know why? AinDiabCasa & CornicheCasa. Give me the links where did u see em? I'm waiting for an answer.--Jabérien (talk) 00:42, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- I will restore this two imags. If you think it works this way: No, Commons users are not the idiots searching every single image on the web to demonstrate that it was stolen. If a user becomes distrusted his uploads will be deleted. Im looking forward for good uploads, if you dont have images you may help me to identify the Moroccan soccer players I upload to Category:Association football clubs of Morocco. This was a good edit, the uploads were very bad. --Martin H. (talk) 00:53, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- Ok, sorry man, I didnt want to disturb the system here.. But u know, it's difficult to find who took the pics, or the licences in Morocco, there is like no informations...--Jabérien (talk) 01:00, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- Thats not different to any other place of the world - the only difference is that there are not so many Moroccans online so less people to ask for photos. I keep my eyes open. If you can identify a player (File:Raja de Casablanca vs Maghreb de Fes, November 09 2008-07.jpg, 21 and 26) please write there name in the description, at best with a link to their Wikipedia article, [[:fr:Name Surname|]]. --Martin H. (talk) 01:22, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- I see, and I will help whenever I can. Man, u deleted other pics of mine!! What's wrong with VoxPopuli & EmpireRaja? :O --Jabérien (talk) 01:38, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- You know whats wrong. Dont try it. --Martin H. (talk) 02:04, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- Ok, the Mannschaft is the best team, and they're gonna win the WorldCup 2010.--Jabérien (talk) 12:54, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Jabérien. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Jabérien~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
Community Liaison, Wikimedia Foundation

File:Coat of arms of Casa.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.) Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
