Welcome to Wikimedia Commons, Indolering!

Please be courteous to other users

[edit]

Please do not call other users "cranks" or any similar things. Assume good faith - we're all here to make a better world. -mattbuck (Talk) 15:07, 12 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The user I was referring to is attempting to hijack our brand and has repeatedly jeopardized user safety, I am not exaggerating. Cranks are by definition misguided individuals with good intentions but treating them with kid gloves only enables their behavior. I have wasted an enormous amount of time placating this user --Indolering (talk) 04:40, 13 October 2014 (UTC) (updated --Indolering (talk) 20:57, 19 October 2014 (UTC))[reply]

You were warned a week ago about calling other users "cranks" and you have continued to do so, you have one last opportunity to avoid being blocked indefinitely here on Commons, which will require you to redact your personal attack and confirm you understand any further breaches will result in your immediate block. I would also suggest you take a step back from the NameCoin deletion request and allow other editors to dissect your comments and make appropriate recommendations and comments for the closing administrator to consider. Commons isn't the place to further this dispute about official vs. unofficial logos, we're a repository for free images and nothing more, so we can't take any decisions on what is an official logo and what isn't. I was not aware that such a policy existed nor that Mattbuck's comments were warnings. I have removed references to the specific user here and on the deletion request page. I've also removed all references to "crank" on the deletion request page. Please let me know if further editing is required and whether I need to remove the discussion here. I would also appreciate your weighing in on my scope analysis on the deletion request page. --Indolering (talk) 20:57, 19 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Wikimedia Commons, as with all other Wikimedia sites, expects editors to maintain civil discourse with fellow editors. We have our m:Incivility guidance to work from and it would be good for you to read through it, and it's en:WP:CIVIL counterpart, to get an idea of the project and the atmosphere we're trying to foster (we really want it to be a friendly, jovial place). Scope is going to be difficult to decide. Nick (talk) 01:11, 20 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Nick, the problem that I am having is that I totally agree with your sentiment that "[The] Commons isn't the place to further this dispute about official vs. unofficial logos...." and the fact of the matter is that the development team and the community rejected this person's logo. But other editors (on the commons and Wikipedia) continue to discredit the notion that the Namecoin community is capable of choosing an official logo. Instead of discussing scope, they try to push the idea that there is no official logo because if there is an official logo, then these unofficial logos that have no notoriety on their own should be removed from the Commons. If I try to explain the situation, that a single person is responsible for perpetuating this logo and that this person has no credibility, then I'm crossing the line of incivility. If Mattbuck and yourself would change the conversation to focus on scope and the educational utility of this material, I would be happy to drop any references to Sudo. But right now, I can only respond to FDMS4's core argument: this situation is akin to disputed flags produced by a diaspora for a given territory and I'm trying to show this is more like a few crazy government separatists without any substantive claims. I honestly want feedback on the best way to proceed without ensnaring myself in this catch-22. --Indolering (talk) 22:03, 20 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
