Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and or licensing of this particular file. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? Thank you. --cleanups
[edit]Hi Ian,
that is amazing work, how did you do that? Yeah, I am trying to improve on my images, I don't know why my camera gives me these really blue images when the sun is bright. But your work looks really good, a tad bit too bright maybe, but awesome, thanks a bunch! Gryffindor 08:18, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
- Cheers mate, let me know if there is anything that I can do for you in return, sysop-wise etc... Gryffindor 09:55, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit]HI Ian,
I understand that you scanned this photo from a museum guide. You also claim PD because of it being created by the United Kingdom Government. But you also say: No ISBN) and uncredited. The latter makes me conclude that it is not certain that it is a work of the UK government, hence we are not certain of its copyright status. Correct?
kind regards,

Images in category "Unknown orthoptera"
[edit]Hi Ian, I specified the orthoptera in a number of your images. You may remove them from "unknown orthoptera" and may categorize them under the species given, if you agree.
With best regards

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Really cool. Always nice to see one's work being build on. Any idea what the purpose of the perforated pipe below the canopy glass is? --NJR ZA (talk) 17:42, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

File:Comet_1.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.) Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

- So why are you telling me, I didn't upload it. If you look at the 'File History' panel you can see that someone else uploaded it, and all I did was edit it. Now be a good little Bot and piss-off.

[edit]Thanks. Nice job sharpening up that image. Impressive what can be done - something I should learn about. It was hard to get a decent photo in the museum without flash or stand, so what you did is most useful. Rwendland (talk) 15:21, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 06:00, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
- Image:John Franks Vallentin memorial plaque.jpg is uncategorized since 2 July 2009.
- The image was uploaded when Wikipedia had almost stalled so I wasn't aware it had uploaded. I've add a cat. and a link now. Ian Dunster (talk) 09:57, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Ian Dunster. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Ian Dunster~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
Community Liaison, Wikimedia Foundation
