Hi I was reading Wedgewood's "The thirty years war" also and I found your question about the Latin quote. The quote is from Book XII of the Aeneid. The difference is that where the original says "consulere atque omnis metuentem expendere casus", James says "prospicere, atque omnes volventem expendere casus". 128.100.219.77 19:56, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
