Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 10:55, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

Wikimedia Commons does not accept derivative works of non-free works such as File:1915Genocide1945.png. It only accepts free content, which is images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Reproductions of copyrighted works are also subject to the same copyright, and therefore this file must unfortunately be considered non-free. For more information, please read Commons:Derivative works and Commons:Freedom of panorama. You can ask questions about Commons policies in Commons:Help desk.
The file you added has been deleted. If you believe that this file was not a derivative work of a non-free work, you may request undeletion.

@Halebtsi, try to upload it locally at :en under fair-use. --Túrelio (talk) 07:52, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
@Halebtsi, did you really shoot File:JackUCLA.png by yourself? --Túrelio (talk) 08:03, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
I have done some edits to this picture, namely reducing the brightness on the Doctor's head and an overall balance of the histogram. Sicne the file is protected I cannot upload the new version. Please let me know if you have any qualms about this. Otherwise I will upload the new version following the un-protection. Let me know what should be done on my talk page on Wikipedia w:user talk: schyler. Thanks. Schyler (talk) 03:59, 4 June 2011 (UTC)
I have uploaded the edit of your image. I hope you approve. Schyler (talk) 02:21, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
- The edits performed have the effect of making Kevorkian look like he's wearing a very odd hairpiece, rather than simply having white hair illuminated by a bright overhead light. I sincerely suggest reverting.
- More importantly, the "permission" granted here was from an IP user, not verified to be Halebtsi. --Lexein (talk) 16:11, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Halebtsi. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Halebtsi~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
