The purpose of this site

[edit]

Hi, the purpose of this site is to provide a central media database for the Wikimedia projects such as Wikipedia. Text-based content such as articles, essays, rants, musings, etc, will be deleted or moved to an appropriate project. Therefore please don't write such things here. Regards, pfctdayelise (translate?) 09:51, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Spoken text refers to audio files of people speaking texts aloud, not transcripts of speeches. Perhaps that wording is not clear. But Commons:Project scope makes it clear: Wikimedia Commons does not contain text articles like encyclopedia articles, textbooks, news, word definitions and such. Each of these other kinds of content have their own projects: Wikipedia, Wikibooks, Wikisource, Wikinews, Wiktionary and Wikiquote. Also Commons:FAQ: Can I upload text that I am the author of?
Since the content you wrote is quite reflective and personal, perhaps it belongs more on a blog or personal webpage than one of the Wikimedia projects. The Commons naturally inherits several guidelines or policies from Wikipedia, the original project, one of them being Wikipedia is not a free host, blog or webspace provider.
At any rate, I restored the article as a subpage of your userpage: you can find it now at User:H0riz0n/The Natural Taoist. Please don't move it into the main namespace though (where it was before). Regards, pfctdayelise (translate?) 13:19, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Incidentally, it didn't occur to me until now to move articles like this to the user space rather than just deleting them. For some reason it is common for newcomers to copy and paste entire articles or webpage contents into articles here, and in those cases they're usually copyright violations. As an admin I have access to the text of deleted articles although other users don't (due to a policy change at Wikipedia last year). So, in cases like this where contributors have put some genuine thought into their work, I will move them to the userspace (like I did here) rather than deleting them outright. So I guess, thankyou for making me think of this and it should ensure that editors who write thoughtful (if misplaced) work will not 'lose' it instantly. pfctdayelise (translate?) 13:30, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Contribute your work If you're a good photographer, don't hesitate to contribute your valuable images. If you're a good designer, look which diagrams and animations are badly needed. If you're a good musician or film/theater artist, do not hesitate to publish your own records of your performances of free pieces here."

This is very ambiguous: www.wikitube.com.
