First steps tutorial

Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
  • You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
  • You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
  • There are several tools to upload files.
  • Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Ciao, ti scrivo perché hai partecipato a Wiki Loves Puglia 2023. Sono lieto di invitarti alla premiazione del concorso fotografico che si terrà il 15 dicembre 2023 alle 17:00 presso l'Aula Magna "Aldo Cossu" dell'Ateneo dell'Università degli Studi di Bari "Aldo Moro". Inoltre, il 4 gennaio 2024 alle 18:00 inaugureremo la mostra fotografica del concorso presso il Centro Polifunzionale Studenti Ex Palazzo delle Poste dell'Università degli Studi di Bari e rimarrà esposta fino al 31 gennaio 2024 (orari 08:30 - 20:30 lunedì - venerdi; 08:30 - 18:00 sabato; 09:00 - 16:30 domenica). Ciao, vedo che sei esperto per quanto riguarda i file .SVG. Per caso riusciresti a caricare una versione aggiornata del logo File:Logo ANM Napoli.svg? Fatto ma in versione separata. Ho modificato opportunamente quella non ufficiale. Probabilmente e purtroppo ho un filtro che mi impedisce di sovrascrivere opere altrui che spero di risolvere quanto prima; quindi, ecco a te il file. Giov.c (talk) 11:59, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ti ringrazio davvero tanto, è perfetto! A volte alcuni file non sono sovrascrivibili e va richiesto lo sblocco in una pagina speciale, tuttavia per il loghi non è il caso di farlo, ma va caricato come nuovo file per preservare i loghi vecchi (a volte nelle pagine vengono inseriti i vari loghi e gli anni di utilizzo, sovrascrivendoli non sarebbe più possibile farlo). —Yeagvr (talk) 23:21, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Non voglio esagerare, ti chiedo scusa in anticipo per il disturbo, ma visto che io proprio non sono in grado di lavorare con gli SVG, per caso, a tempo perso proprio perché non voglio disturbarti, se ti va, potresti caricare una nuova versione di questo file aggiungendo alla destra dello stemma il nome dell'università? ti scrivo perché gli anni scorsi hai partecipato al concorso locale pugliese di Wiki Loves Monuments, ma quest'anno non ci hai ancora inviato fotografie. Ti ricordo che è possibile partecipare, sempre gratuitamente, entro il 30 settembre tramite la piattaforma https://app.wikilovesmonuments.it.

Quest’anno partecipano tutti i musei, archivi, biblioteche, terme e luoghi della cultura, in aggiunta a tutti i monumenti presenti negli scorsi anni. Come sempre, le tue fotografie saranno valide sia per la selezione regionale sia per la selezione nazionale.

Dear Wikimedian,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2023 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighteenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2023) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on UTC.
