Our first steps tour and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki—it is really easy. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel irc:wikimedia-commons #wikimedia-commons (direct access). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing. |

[edit]File(s) appeared in Category:Pages using Information template with incorrect parameter
[edit]Hello GeorgR (de), it seems that your latest changes or uploads of the file(s) WC06 - Wisc. Central Trip to northern Wisc. - April 16 broke a template. This assumption has been made because the file(s) appeared in the maintenance Category:Pages using Information template with incorrect parameter. To fix this issue please check this category for further information. If the file(s) is/are not contained in the maintenance category anymore someone else already did the work and you can ignore this message. Thank you for your cooperation. --ArndBot (talk) 19:38, 22 October 2020 (UTC)

Quick note
[edit]When reviewing files, please do not simply remove the license if you believe that the license lacks evidence of validity. Instead, please either tag the page using the {{No permission since}} if you genuinely believe that it is the uploader's own work or, if not, apply the correct speedy tag or request deletion of the file. Simply removing the license will cause AntiCompositeBot (cc: AntiCompositeNumber) to tag the page as lacking a license, as it did at File:SamPitrodaPhoto.jpg, but that bot-placed "no license" tag cannot be actioned for photos uploaded with a claimed license. — Red-tailed hawk (nest) 03:14, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
Speedy-deletion tagging
[edit]Thanks for patrolling for files that are not appropriate on commons. When you tag an image for deletion, remember to leave a note on the uploader's user-talk page. There are several templates that can be used if you like. This is important because it lets us see a user's history of deleted images, in case they become an ongoing problem that needs a stern warning or block. DMacks (talk) 01:02, 27 July 2023 (UTC)
Daily gallery updater has failed on User:GeorgR (de)/Rail Transport in the US
[edit]Hello. This message is to inform you that a daily gallery in your userspace, User:GeorgR (de)/Rail Transport in the US, has failed. Your gallery has a hard upper-limit of about 2000 files per day, while your gallery would have had 2337 files (including files already on the page).
This usually happens because a gallery is too broad, encompassing too many subcategories. Please review the logs here and request that a subcategory be excluded, or narrow your category choice(s).
Please make your request for removal at User talk:OgreBot/gallery within 4 days, or your gallery will be subject to removal.
Thank you. Magog the Ogre (via OgreBot (talk) 03:25, 28 August 2023 (UTC))
thanks!
[edit]Thank you for adding the categories for my recent LIRR train image uploads; I'm a bit new to the categories thing but the commons surely benefits from your help! Tduk (talk) 18:23, 4 February 2024 (UTC)
Remember to warn users
[edit]When you tag a file for speedy deletion, you must warn the uploader, unlike what you did at User talk:LacasitoMarchoso. Consider using Help:QuickDelete. —Matrix(!) {user - talk? - uselesscontributions} 16:46, 29 June 2024 (UTC)
