Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump. |

Could you please email OTRS with evidence of identity and image release?
[edit]Mr Frisby, thank you very much for the excellent images you uploaded. However, since most of these are clearly professional photographs we need a bit of proof to show that you are, in fact, Dominic Frisby, and own the rights to them, because, as you may imagine, we get a lot more contributors claiming to be famous people, than actual famous people. Commons:OTRS explains the procedure in detail; basically you (or an official representative) want to:
- email permissions-commons@wikimedia.org
- from an official email address, for example one of those listed on https://dominicfrisby.com/contact-me (and mention that link in the email, so the person reading the email can check that it is coming from your official email address)
- saying that you are Dominic Frisby, and are using the Wikipedia and Wikimedia user account User:Frizzers
- and that you own the copyright to the images you have uploaded and release them under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International license as stated on each page:
- https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Dominic_Frisby.jpg
- https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Dominic-Frisby.jpg
- https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Dominic_Frisby_Libertarian_Love_Songs.jpg
- https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Dominic_Frisby.png
- You also want to add an explanation of how you happen to own the copyrights to the images, since usually the photographer owns the copyright to their photos, and just from looking at the images, most or all of these could not have been taken by you. For example, you could write that these were taken by people officially working for you, or officially gave you the copyright (giving their names and circumstances would help). And of course, if you don't actually own the copyrights, then we won't be able to accept your releases, and won't be able to use the excellent images.
- Finally, the person reading the email may write back to clarify something, so you may have to respond when they write back. Or not, maybe just one email will suffice.
Thank you Mr. Frisby, and sorry for the hassle! --GRuban (talk) 13:32, 1 April 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Dominic Frisby.png. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you. |
