Rollback
I have 2013 granted rollback rights to your account; the reason for this is that after a review of some of your contributions, I believe I can trust you to use rollback correctly by using it for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Commons:Rollback. Good luck and thanks. Steinsplitter (talk) 10:00, 14 June 2013 (UTC)--Steinsplitter (talk) 10:01, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
Shields
Incase you didnt catch it on IRC, my version of Inkscape is only giving me the odd corners, so I have reverted your upload for consistency. If you want to go through the lot and give them rounded corners, then feel free though. In the end though its only a minor styling error that likely wont be visible to end users due to sizes rendered at, so dont know if its worth it anyway :). -- Nbound (talk) 02:35, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks, I would have done the same. –Fredddie™ 02:38, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
Copyright Images
I need to say thank you for all the work you did on correcting the North Dakota highway signs. I have lived in the state for most of my life and they have been a daily reminder to me of my love for roads, structure, math and meaning. I am in need of help: I am working on a poetry book where the roads of rural North Dakota are a major part of the theme. I want to use the highway signs for my work. I know a little something about copyright but I am not up on the sourcing and asking for permission. I used one of your images (ND Highway 37) as the cover image for my first poetry book and I cited it as being retrieved from Wikipedia and that's all I did. I have the only physical copy in existence.
Here's the thing: do you know if the state of North Dakota has trademarked or copyrighted the Indian head highway signs? I looked through the Highway Sign manual that contained the dimensions for the sign standards and I found nothing. When I read your user profile, I figure you may have some knowledge about it. I know made the ND highway signs so for the public's benefit, hence I can see why they are all in the public domain. I want to use a few of them for my own art work and that presents some complications on my end. I greatly appreciate knowledge or advice you could give me.13:47, 29 July 2013 (UTC)13:47, 29 July 2013 (UTC)13:47, 29 July 2013 (UTC)Opinionhead
- I enlisted the help of another roads editor and neither of us have found any indication that the North Dakota markers are under any copyright. However, we are still looking, and I will contact NDDOT to be sure. –Fredddie™ 00:33, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
Thank you for doing that. I deeply appreciate it.Opinionhead (talk)
RfA
Hi, I just saw your RfA was closed as unsuccessful. Don't be too discouraged—it's not a reflection on the excellent work you've done. It's just that people like admins to have more experience of the back-end stuff. If you do want to be an admin, spend some time in the project space or spend a few months handling permissions tickets on OTRS (the info:en::copyvio queue is also interesting if you like dealing with copyright issues; it mainly relates to enwiki, but we get the odd ticket about a Commons file) and you'll have no problem at a future RfA. But if you don't want to do that sort of thing, it's not worth being that bored just to become an admin. Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 17:38, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
